I want to leave Talk Talk

BUT I work from home and am apparently going to lose the internet for two weeks! Is there any way round this or do I have to just spend a lot of time in McDonalds using their free wifi? Thank you

Why two weeks? I've changed bb supplier four times and longest I've been unconnected for is 24 hrs

I have no idea, I started the switch process and it came up with a box saying the phone line would be switched in weeks one and two and then broadband in weeks three and four during which period I would lose broadband but they would be as quick as possible. Unless I completely misunderstood and they meant for the 24hour period of switching? I will re-do it and quote word for word.

"If you are joining from Talk Talk then the transfer is completely free. It takes two weeks for us to switch your line and calls to our network and a further two weeks to switch your broadband across. In weeks three and four of the transfer you will not have a broadband connection as we need to move it from your existing provider but we'll get your service active as soon as possible."

It would help if you said who your intended new supplier is. Are you on an LLU service at present. Is your new service LLU also?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Sorry, don't know what that means but I am swapping to primus as per the MSE email suggestion as it works out almost £10 pcm less than what I am currently paying

TalkTalk will be LLU (local loop unbundled), so you'll effectively have a new line provision to move back to a BT-based connection. There's no logical reason for there being 2 weeks downtime, other than lack of coordination and efficieny within BT Openreach.

LLU can have its benefits, but this scenario is one of the downsides.

So I will be moving from overpriced to massively disorganised! Thing is for the saving it probably is worth the grief of using my phone for emails and the neighbours house for uploads. I may ring talk talk, see if they want to keep me enough to offer me the prices they offer new customers. I doubt it!

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to my query

Primus are not BT Openreach. ALL providers are obliged to use BT Openreach for physical connection work as they own the lines/cables. :(

But if you ring TT make sure you select the option for Retentions/Customer Loyalty/Thinking Of Leaving (option 4?) - they will have much more latitude to offer deals than normal customer services. :)

It's not that the new company are massively disorganised at all - it's actually down to TalkTalk having their own equipment in the telephone exchange.

When you move back to a BT-based provider your line needs to be switched back to BT's own equipment, hence the delay.

It's the same with a move from LLU to non-LLU, and is perfectly normal.

You should be on a business tariff if using the Internet for mainly work-related purposes.
What if your Internet was to go down? If you're a home customer and paying as such, you'll probably be without internet access for a fair while as it's non-essential. If you're a business user relying on it, then companies will actually work quickly to restore services.

Quite possibly but my business isn't internet based, I just use it for various aspects, so thank you but it would be an annoying inconvenience if my internet was to go down but I wouldn't lose the house. I would say my personal use is higher than my business use.

Sounds like I shall have to buy the neighbours some wine and chocolates and use theirs if I need to in the two weeks whilst mine is down.
