I want to move away from Sky talk & BB

I am currently with Sky on unlimited BB & Sky Talk & am looking to change, due to the dreadful speeds (about 1 meg) & the £14.50/month line rental. Total £22/month (due to the fact I have Sky TV).
I have been contacted by EE (formally Orange), who have offered me £5/month BB (due to the fact that I'm an Orange phone customer) plus £14/month line rental. Total £19/month with the possibility of £70 cashback from TCB too.
Now, they have told me I can get 6 meg, but when I have checked my line on Tesco BB & Talk Talk, they have quoted 2 to 4.5 meg, and EE's website says 3.5 meg (but could be between 2 & 6). Sky had already told me they can't increase my speed, due to the distance I am from the exchange. I think that even 6 meg is poor in today's climate.
Been on SamKnows & the following comment came up:
"However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection"
Does anyone know what this means?
My other option is to go for fibre. EE are coming out cheapest again, almost £150 cheaper than sky or £36 cheaper than Plusnet. The only thing with EE is that I have to remain an EE, orange or T-mobile customer to get the deal.
Any advice please?

What are the other LLU options on your exchange from samknows? Are you on Sky LLU or the dire Sky Connect?
What speed does the BT tester say you should be getting? If you are only getting 1Mbps and the other potential providers estimate 2-6Mbps, then it appears there is either a problem on your line, or with your equipment/extensions/wiring. Restest your line speed from the BT test socket behind the master socket faceplate using ethernet, and post your router stats.
But if you think even 6Mbps is insufficient, then BT-based fibre or VM cable are the only alternatives, as clearly your line won't support more than that.
Assuming that you are out of minimum term, why not just sort out the speed issues and negotiate a retention deal with Sky? EE are certainly not going to give you better speeds than Sky, since all they offer is a resold BT Wholesale product. Any issues you have with the line or equipment will remain. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
OP If you are getting 1 Mbps with Sky BB Unlimited you will not get a faster speed with any other ISP, save FTTC, if as it is possible there is a lie problem
Could you post your router line stats?

Just had them on the phone again. They say they can guarantee a minimum of 6 megs, but I am very wary of these claims. The people I've been speaking to also claim that they no longer have a relationship with Topcashback, which I also don't believe. I think they are trying to make me sign up with them, so they get some commission. They call from a number in the Czech Republic.
Below is what the BT Wholesale site says about my telephone line:Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 2.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1.5Mbps and 5Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL2+ broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 3.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 2Mbps and 6Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 500Kbps and downstream line speed of 3.5Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 2Mbps and 6Mbps.The following services are available in your location:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
BT FTTC
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Tiscali LLU0 -

You are presumably on a Sky LLU service then, moving that to a BT Wholesale product is not going to improve your line speed unless something else is wrong. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Looks like it'll be fibre, probably with Plusnet, so I'm not tied down to keeping orange/t-mobile as a mobile provider (which is due for looking at next month anyway).
I'll give sky the chance to offer me some amazing deal on fibre, but won't hold my breath.
I'll be back later with my router stats, just in case.0 -

That is one long line, the best you could hope to get on a 63.5 db line would be around 2 to 3Mbps assuming ideal conditions.
The router is synchronising at its optimum rate of around 7 db (6.6)
A couple of things, are you plugged into your telephone master socket?
Do you have other extensions wired into the master socket?
One more thing you could try is to remove the master socket faceplate, connect the router to the test socket and re do the stats, this will eliminate any wired extensions assuming you have them. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
