As with all the above, it should be FE 8455.

FE8 455 is misrepresentation and could land you a £60 ticket if stopped.

if you're white, living in a smallish town (compared to London). You'll have no problem with this at all.

If you're black or asian living in a big town you will get pulled over and fined.

it depends who you are and where you live. If FE8 4SS is important to you - just have it on. It's such a borderline issue that I doubt anyone will care too much.

Also there's a two strike rule - just plead ignorance that the lice plate maker put it that way etc.

Normally police get anal about when people misrepresent numbers to letters and vice versa. 4 to A, 5 to S ect to spell their name or whatever. Spacing is not an issue.

    Did you read the OP?

He doesn't want it to read FE8 455.

I don't see what the colour of the OPs son has to do with it anyway.

I think you'll find that police intervention depends much more on the degree of illegibility of the plate than the colour of the driver.
Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.

On what basis? I think you are wrong but happy to hear your reasoning?

Don't they have some kind of a mark on them to say they are legally allowed to produce them for road use/name of the company? Having bought a 13 plate couldn't resist putting my 2p in.

But not legal, they will be show plates.

I know of someone that has jumped through the appropriate hoops to provide legal plates - and he sells via ebay.

@bondy01, I think they have to have the postcode of the place that produced them on there. I know for a fact that Halfords have their Head office postcode on theirs which is very subtle and hardly visible unless you look closely. There's no need for bold company names etc.

How does he get sight of the ORIGINAL V5 etc which is a requirement to produce legal number plates (https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates/getting-number-plates-made-up). He may be an authorised producer at his physical location but that does not mean he can sell them via ebay as he can not obtain the required proof of ownership unless somebody is stupid enough to mail him their original V5.

Don't tell me he accepts scans?

Can he be found via http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/vehicles/search.aspx?ext=dg

When he says he sells them legally he may mean, it's legal for him to sell them because he includes the 'show plate' disclaimer. Selling them legally, and them being road legal are two different things but could be mistaken for each other quite easily. Unless there collection only or only released by the courier upon inspection of the v5 on the doorstep maybe? If that's even possible?

ok the particular seller in question that I have used is ON that dft list and he does not require site of the V5 and he does not state show plates disclaimer in his ads.

He produces a plate as follows:
Our plates are manufactured to all BSA145d standards and carry all the required BS Mark, Suppliers Name and Postcode to ensure they conform with current regulations.

The plate is legal. It might have been produced illegally by no sight of the V5 but that does not mean the plate in itself is illegal.

If the plate complies with the relevant british standard, has the name and postcode of the seller and has the appropriate BS marking, the correct font and spacing etc. then the plate will be legal.

It is illegal to sell that plate to the OP without checking V5 etc. but it is not illegal for the OP to buy it and use it on their vehicle.

    It's this guy ...
    http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/perfectplate_uk

Yes, he can be found on that link.

His listings have the disclaimer :-

All plates unless specifically requested (documentation required) are sold as "show use" and/or "off road use" and therefore we cannot be held responsible for illegal use of these plates on the road, by choosing "buy it now" you are agreeing to these terms and conditions of sale, We cannot be held responsible for any fines or convictions resulting from using these plates for any purpose but for the one for which they were designed

So I guess you can "specifically request" and do whatever you want.
