Instead of saying things like "look at the economy we inherited" I'd much rather there was a simple blunt truth and positive outlook going forward.
I'd much rather they simply stated something like "The country cannot afford to spend as it currently is. We the government are pro-actively dealing with this situation and prioritising the available funds where we think it is best utilised"
Things will be tough until we understand to live within our means
I agree. the problem is that all parties have pragmatists capable of working this way but their colleagues are still fighting the battles of the past and the partisan policies they have believed in all their lives.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Brown clobbered pensions and seems the coalition want to bang another nail in.
The Government is braced for a backlash from pensioners and institutional investors over changes to the way inflation is measured that are expected to slash incomes but save the taxpayer at least £2.5bn a year.

£2.5 billion is small fry. Still another £120 billion or so to go yet.
The choices are going to get tougher and tougher to make.0 -
three little letters... N H S
Choppidy chop chop.
You have to sort out the biggest areas of spending. Far easier to make 5% cuts (125 Billion NHS) to a huge budget than 70% cuts to a smaller one.
Thats why freezing the state pension for 5 years would make sense. (67 billion 2009-2010) approx 10 billion saved per year iafter 5 years of no indexing. There. Saved another 16 billion.0 -

Affects private pensions too.
Oh well what does it matter for Joe Public, who have once again, provided for their future, to be fleeced once more.
Never mind I am sure we will find solace in the overseas aid budget being increased by a similar amount. Comforting."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I'm not sure they don't want to win. It's just these things need to be done. I think a lot of the bungling is down to the coalition and having to appease all the time.
yet in the same polls almost 70% wouldnt vote tory0 -

Or , as will happen, you as an individual start paying on top and don't expect any tax reductions either."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
