Hi All.
I was thinking of trying these surveys to earn a little extra for myself although I know they can be a bit hit and miss. However I would like to know a few things before I sign up to them.
So to all of you that have done these surveys can I ask how intrusive they are for personal details? I presume they get the money by selling your details. What details do they ask from you and how safe will be? Do they ask for things like phone numbers and the exact details of your address. I understand that I will get a lot of junk sent to my email as you usually do but will I be made to give exact details and be bombarded with nuisance phone calls day and night and major heaps of junk through the letter box and be more at risk of being a victim of Hackers, scammers, etc?
And also how do the payment methods work? Are vouchers just percentage off vouchers or proper vouchers worth £5, £10, etc?0 -

>So to all of you that have done these surveys can I ask how intrusive they are for personal details?
To me it's not very intrusive -- if it is, it says the survey is of a sensitive nature. I did one on condoms once and it said it was intrusive and would ask you specific questions so you could try them out.
>What details do they ask from you and how safe will be?
Birthdate or age, male or female, and occasionally full or partial postcode. Then question your buying habits, usually to ask you if you are looking for insurance or when you last went to see a film and does this TV programme sound good?
>Do they ask for things like phone numbers and the exact details of your address.
I've never, ever been asked for a phone number nor my exact address unless they were sending me a product. I started doing pinecone in 2004 but then I ended up falling out in 2007 when I moved to England.

I never get any junk mail (I've only been in England six and a half years though), no nuisance phone calls, and no scammers. I'm signed up to valued opinions, pinecone (got back in!), one PTC (clixsense), and I used to do comps/sweeps back in the US for four hours a day for months and I've never got a single phone call or junk mail for it. You will get lots and lots of e-mails if you do comps/sweeps (competitions/sweepstakes), but not if you do legit survey sites. I always use a separate e-mail for all my extra money work. I think I'm getting a few more due to the PTC but not very many.
>And also how do the payment methods work? Are vouchers just percentage off vouchers or proper vouchers worth £5, £10, etc?
Depends on the site. Valued opinions does actual vouchers and so does Pinecone. Pinecone also do paypal now. Most PTC (pay to click) sites do paypal. I've never heard of percentage off vouchers as a payment method before.Since Jan 2014 -- Clixsense -- £300 (join us! ♥) | Valued opinions £120 | Nectar Fanatic (SavvyShoppers/Canvass)

Thank you very much, this has answered a lot for me. Thanks again.:) :A0 -
@choco again
I just realized some of the surveys ask for your ethnicity and how much money you make too. If it's ethnicity, I've noticed 90% of the time there's a "don't want to answer" and with money about 40% of the time there's a "don't want to answer" too.
I think the money comes not from selling your info but from companies that want to know what people think, similar to focus groups.Since Jan 2014 -- Clixsense -- £300 (join us! ♥) | Valued opinions £120 | Nectar Fanatic (SavvyShoppers/Canvass)

Hi,
I work for one so hope I can answer a few questions.
We are all regulated under data protection rules and at the point of sign up NO survey company will ever ask you for this information. We will ask you some basic profiling questions to try and work out what surveys we can send to you that you will qualify for, this helps us to send you more invites (so you earn more rewards) and ensures that we have as much info as possible about our panel so if a client is asking us how many people we can target, we have a calculated answer!
Occasionally we will ask for standard demographic info, e.g. age, gender, income. This isnt because we're being nosey, its because clients who are paying for surveys want them to be representative of the UK population so we have targets in each group that we need to achieve.
We would only ever ask you for contact information such as your telephone number if a client wants to follow up with a depth interview on the phone, and we would explain everything you'd need to know for this before we ask you for this information. We would also ensure that the company asking for this information signs a non-disclosure agreement that says that they cannot pass this information on either. Our entire industry is regulated by these rules so it would be in nobody's interests to pass this data to anyone.
We would also gain no money whatsoever from selling any data about our panellists to any companies for a quick fix. It's your opinions that we're after.
Sometimes you may screen out of a survey if you are asked what you might think to be a personal question, e.g. marital status or income, but for some surveys if we dont have that information we can't continue with your survey unfortunately.
I hope this helps!0 -
Does anyone have any experience with GratisPoints, and if so what is the cost of an Amazon voucher in points? I cannot find any info of this on the site.0
