Sky box..Replacement

Get another multi-room installation. Ask for 2tb box and you should get with installation for £109 (Persist as you are spending more in effect). They should give you the MR for £2.50 a month as upgrades are flavour of month. Total cost over 1 year £139.
Then you own the equipment and can cancel down in due course again.
You are also left with a decent set of cables into your 3rd room. May also get a new dish if you chat nicely. This is engineers discretion as he holds plenty stock.
There is nothing to stop you doing a full upgrade at a MR upgrade.
I got my other 2 rooms moved and recabled etc all part of the £60 callout. Just make the callout charge work for you.0 -

What's the make and model number?
Some faults are DIY fixable.
Sky won't send an "engineer" (despite what they say). He'll be an installer with zero knowledge of how the internals of the Digibox work.0 -

Not sure of make and model as I'm not at home at the moment..
However what I'm getting a is, what checks can a engineer make that I can't do by myself with instruction from SKY over the phone.
I don't want them turning up after a £65 fee and saying oh yeah your box is kaput and then charging me for a new box....
Off work tomorrow so will try again

Thats the point I was trying to make. If you grudge paying a callout get a "full service" requested at the same time. Enginners always carry refurbs etc.0

'Hello Sky, my digibox has broken so I would like to cancel my subscription please'.
That should sort out a new box for you. If you want 2TB you can install a 2TB desktop hard drive yourself - best time to do it is before recording anything so you don't have to copy anything.0 -

She checked records and set box was out of warrenty ( i knew that ) and that she could dispatch a enginner for £65 who would check the box and "replace" if he found it faulty ??? What checks would the engineer make ?
I asked several times about a new box and she stated that they dont "just sell" new boxes...It needs a enginner call out first, and even then if a box was replaced i would only have 90 days warrently on it....Wouldn't say if box would be new or refurb.
Went through motions of a "planner rebuild" and now will monitor box and see what happens ?

I had a similar experience. Had our box for years and couldn't get another. They wanted me to take HD when I didn't have an HD television!
I bought a refurbished box on ebay. It's been fine (fingers crossed :rotfl:) for nearly two years.0 -
I'm binning sky for free sat, going to purchase a humax HDR 1000s. Box will have paid for itself in six months without sky sub.0

Hi, i called today as my old white Sky+ box has a fault when i rewind a recording. Explained issue and asked what options were. Guy arranged replacement HD box for £15 delivery. I asked about HD subscription. Advised not needed to get box but could have 12 months for £5 per month rather than £10.25. Gave first three months free so delivery effectively free. Did not mention cancelling or anything, just politely asked what options were and this was the outcome.
Good luck, i hope you get a result you want.0
