hi
I currently have a SKY+HD box and a multiroom box ( non recordable )
The SKY+HD box i think is failing...box freezes a lot and requires powering on and off at least once every 48 hours.
What are my options for getting a new one ?
The Box is about 3 years old..I returned to SKY from Virgin in August and only had a new viewing card from SKY, the multiroom box is however new and was installed at beginning of December.
Would like one of the new 2TB boxes, but dont know if its gonna cost loads of £££££

My HD+ box failed at weekend. Rang tech support and went through all the fixing options, nothing worked. Rang customer services and told them what had happened - got a new HD+ box sent out for P&P only - £15. No threat to leave or anything. This was saturday, box arrived Monday. I didnt try for the 2TB box as I dont need it but you could always try.
I've been a sky customer for years and have phone & BB0 -
are you in contract ?0

No I wasnt in contract or warranty. Am now I've taken the new box!0

Your Multi-room is in warranty so you can in theory get a free callout. I will leave what you say to them down to your own ingenuity.0 -

But a service call will only be like for like, if trying for a free service call on an in warranty sky hd box then they would only replace with the same so you would lose out on your recording service.
Your looking at £65 for a service call.
Or so I would imagine...
As for the self install option... Did you add the HD subscription at £10.25 a month to get the free box? I'd check your account if I was you.0 -
phoned SKY yesterday and said my box was on the blink and keeps freesing and needs a reboot at least once a day.
She checked records and set box was out of warrenty ( i knew that ) and that she could dispatch a enginner for £65 who would check the box and "replace" if he found it faulty ??? What checks would the engineer make ?
I asked several times about a new box and she stated that they dont "just sell" new boxes...It needs a enginner call out first, and even then if a box was replaced i would only have 90 days warrently on it....Wouldn't say if box would be new or refurb.
Went through motions of a "planner rebuild" and now will monitor box and see what happens ?

It would definitely be a refurbished box.
If you want a 2TB you can, of course, buy one. It'll cost £249 from Sky direct.
You could also check on E-Bay.0 -
I raised merry hell with Sky after our HD box was wrecked by their software update (box only recording intermittnetly, lost all series links, froze 6+ times a day). Went through all the technical stuff that didn't work, refused an engineer visit. Didn't want free multi-room. Agreed to a reduction of contact fee of 20% and a new 2TB box for £49. Engineer delivered it (we installed it). Works perfectly.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

I did ask several times about buying a new box...She said they just dont sell new boxes. A engineer needs to come out first.
Whats the point in them sending out a enginneer and charging me £65 only to leave me with a refurb box ? With a warrenty for 3 months.
I would much prefer to pay for a brand new 2TB box and get a 12 month warrenty on it.
May try again during the week
