Tesco Mobile Parental controls - anyone else got this problem?
Got our son a new phone & contract for Christmas, on Tesco Mobile's spiffing £7.50 per month deal. All fine and dandy, except ...
I tried to apply parental controls to the account (they are supposed to stop access to 18+ websites - I know they can't be 100%, but thought if the facility is there I might as well use it). However trying to do it thru the website fails, clicking that option doesn't resolve to a page.
So I went on to chat on the Tesco mobile website, and asked them to apply parental controls, which they did. So yesterday the phone couldn't reach ANY website at all, they had blocked ALL web access.
Soooo, I contacted them again, asked them to take off parental controls, and web access is back.
Anyone else got a problem with parental controls, or just our account ?

I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

I have exactly this problem.
Don't see the point in paying for data on a contract when no websites are available to browse.
I have yet to find a single site that my son can access, and very little information on the web to explain why, or offer a resolution...0 -
Fellow money peoples
I discovered that YOU have to PAY £1 to remove the parental controls on the Tesco Mobile smartphone. And cheeky Tesco Mobile DONT take debit cards only credit cards. I tried my card and it was rejected! Damn cheek!
Before I get moaned at, I AGREE with da parental controls idea in principal. Im glad my teenager cant access certain online internet sites and content. But to pay to remove the Tesco Mobile block seems a bit
harsh! What if you aint got a credit card?? They do tefund you the £1 but thats not the point?
Blast Tesco Mobile for letting me run up a Very high phone bill! Before I get lectures on the value of having some self control ( ha ha!) etc, let me explain!.
NORMALLY I get texts saying Im close to my bill cap cuz in Feb 2014 I had a high phone bill This timr I only had 2 txts!
Dont get confused.com, I always keep a keen eye on my mobile phone bill. And changed my tariff to a better mobile allowance well before my next bill da0 -

Did you bother to read the page relating to removing the block?

Your (double) post is completely wrong. All our mobiles are set by default to access under 18 content only.
Changing your content settings
If you’re the account holder you can turn on parental controls to restrict your phone’s access to under 12 content only or you can allow access to over 18 content. To do this, please call 282 free from your Tesco Mobile phone.
To access 18+ content, you’ll need to confirm your age with your credit card when you call 282. We’ll charge £1 to your credit card, then you’ll get this back as £1 credit on your next bill or as phone credit. If you don’t have a credit card, you can complete this online age verification form.
Doesn't take much research or reading ability to find....====0 -
Please excuse the threadomancy, but Tesco annoy me.
I bought a secondhand phone with a Tesco PAYG sim card and to unlock "18+ content" (which does not just mean !!!!!! incidentally) I have to contact Tesco and give them either my credit card details or fill in a form giving my name, address, age, when my last top-up was and what my current balance is.
(edit - I have no idea when my last top-up was or how to check. I put £10 on it about a year ago).
... F OFF!
I am NOT giving them my personal details. It's a scam. It would be very easy to simply enter the name and address of ANY person so long as you know their correct age. How are they going to know? All they can do is call you and ask "are you over 18?"
It is a TRICK to make you give them valuable information. These companies are almost as keen to get their hands on your personal information as they are to get hold of your cash. If they have a name & address connected to the phone, they can monitor your activities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your phone probably has GPS so they can literally track you down to 10 square metres. Even if you switch off GPS, you will identify your location every time you make or receive a phone call or use the internet on your phone.
Since the 1970's, crazy religious people and conspiracy theorists have been talking about "The Mark Of The Beast" which they imagine as being like a bar code on your arm or a chip implanted in your brain or some such. But now the "mark of the beast" is becoming real, and it's the one thing those same crackpots will never give up: Their mobile phones.
And that's why I resent surrendering my anonymity to Tesco.0 -

It's not a trick, and all networks have a duty to ensure only over 18s can access over 18 material.
No one is forcing you to register, you just can't have over 18 access until you prove you are over 18.====0 -
Sort of got sympathy with Brand_X.
I went in to CPW just to check the price of a phone for someone.
I was handed an iPad and told to enter my name and address.
Politely declined and left the shop.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

So what stopped you entering your name and address?
It's easyname: David Cameron, address 10 Downing Street, London, SW1A 2AA.
That is different thing though, in your case CPW are just scavenging for marketing info, BrandX has had a valid request for age verification. Two quite different things.====0 -
Parental controls wont be much use if he can log on to the home wifi and look at all the p0rn he wants there. :rotfl:0

I realise it's 2 different things.
It was the salespersons attitude, shoving the tablet into my chest and saying fill it in, because we can't help you without your details.
Also I couldn't remember Camerons post code.Move along, nothing to see.0
