Problem With Hotel Booking

I booked a "Superior Double Room" at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel in Mumbai India for 3 nights--I booked through a third party travel site online.I requested twin beds as we are two males.
I had a call from the hotel the other day to say that they do not have twin beds and if they could offer a King bed and give separate duvets.
They sent a picture of the set up of the bed and said if that would be okay.
I am not happy with that-I was wondering if I had any rights to refuse the offer and ask them to give me a room that would accomadate our request.
Its a major Hotel chain with over 500 rooms .
The condition of booking was no refund on cancelation.
am i in my rights to argue and stay firm to either give me a room with twin beds or maybe up grade me to a room that has two beds.

Thanks

  • What does the site say about ''requests''?
Most I have ever dealt with say that they cannot guarantee requests especially if they are a third party.
Ask about 2 singles but if they agree to this expect to pay a lot more.

Sorry ---On the Third Party Travel site the room did say it was a Superior Double--but it also said to fill in the box for any request--i asked that we were two males and would like twin beds-the site took my money and then the following day i had a call explaining that they had no more rooms availble with twin beds--what i am saying is that I had to book the room because it was great price and was the last room left--I had to pay upfront and then put request in --then they said twin rooms were sold out.

But you booked a double !

    Doubles have a double bed.

You didn't HAVE to book the room, there are lots of other expensive hotels in Mumbai.

A request is just that, it isn't guaranteed. I'm surprised they even called you back about it, I never find out if my requests have been honoured before I arrive at my room.

requests are just that, I'm afraid...the site didn't check your request, determine if it could comply and then charge you...it took the booking you made with the request you made noted and then later they confirmed that the hotel could not meet the request.

which third party site did you use?
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

No - because YOU BOOKED A DOUBLE ROOM.
  • If you wanted a twin room you should have booked a twin room not a double and asking for a twin.

Even if you had booked a twin room some providers say it isnt guaranteed.

When I had a problem of being given a double after booking a twin the hotel in question provided a roll away bed... may be worth asking if its an option (thankfully in my case it was the booking agents fault and so I got a full refund)

Just to update about the booking--got things sorted out--spoke to both the hotel and the 3rd party internet hotel company(Booking.com).
Taj Mahal Hotel were very good and advised me to ring customer services at Booking.com and confirm that I had made a request for twin beds whilst making the booking---Booking.com were also helpful and confirmed that request was made and they sorted out the twin bed room request.
Thanks to all the people who gave some positive advise--unlike some negative remarks who just want to remind me "you did book a double"- Booking.com had no problems agreeing that l had asked for twin beds when making the booking --and were sorry that the special request was overlooked.
