They do pass on the information to the Passport Service because I have recently received the official document to sign and return. However their 'service charge' is strangely £72.50 which just happens to be the cost of renewal. This might lead anyone to assume that the passport fee has been included with the information. I have ended up paying £145 for renewal. Their site makes mention that a new photograph will be required when the official document is signed and returned but no mention that a further £72.50 will be required.
I have been in touch with the Advertising Standards Authority and whilst they are not able to intervene to try to get my money back they are trying to get some of these sites closed and/or give clearer details.
My credit card doesn't seem to have been used fraudulently but I intend getting a replacement.
A costly lesson learnt.
The BBC Money programme this morning dealt with a similar problem in relation to Tax Returns.
There are a lot of then out there!!!!
Their fee = £72.50 and passport renewal fee = £72.50
So the total cost to fund the rip-off = £145
Yet, people will argue here that these sites are not misrepresenting themselves to the consumers, because it is all "written" somewhere!.0 -

Hpuse
If you are sure that any websites are misrepresenting themselves, please report them to the appropriate body.0 -
Did you know, Pollycat - you have repeated that question 13 times so far in various threads. Won't you get tired? :rotfl:
Hpuse, just mention it once that you have reported these issues to the regulatory authorities and I am pretty confident these taunts will be a thing of the past.
Oh, and you might even get thanked for you contribution to the wellbeing of society.0 -

No, I didn't know.
How kind of you to trawl through all my threads to count how many times I've made that suggestion.
It's not a question. If it was, it would have a question mark at the end. :rotfl:
I won't get tired until you stop banging on about 'misrepresentation' and actually do something about those websites that you believe are guilty of misrepresentation.0 -

Actually the 'rip-off' aspect costs £72.50 - because the user would get a new passport!
How, one wonders, can a site misrepresent itself?
What these sites are actually doing is copying the official sites and trapping the unwary.
And the reason they are getting away with doing that is, simply BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ILLEGAL websites.
The fact that YOU object to them, hpuse, does not make them ILLEGAL.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Just wanted to say I was duped as well, and I consider myself savvy on such things! However, like many on here, I did not give up and contacted Uk-Passport.net asking for a refund, they did not reply to one email, and I sent many. I contacted the ASA and Trading Standards who were very aware of the company and the situation and offered good advise. I would urge everyone to contact them to complain. I was on the point of sending a recorded delivery letter to the company registered office when I finally got a reply and promised a refund.
You need to email: support@uk-passport.net to request the refund. I have been promised a refund in 3 days....watch this space!

Follow the T&C's of the website in question and request the refund in the way they have specified.
