I've just got an iPad air and have found it easy to use. I've downloaded a book, accessed the internet and Facebook. Not bad for someone who is a complete tablet novice.

All things you could equally easily do on a £40 tablet too.

This commercial has been bought to you by 'Get an Apple for Christmas' Fanboy Enterprises of California... meanwhile in the real world...

It is plainly obvious, that you do not actually understand what I am talking about here, as you must certainly must have a lack of genuine experience in this area, and a most definite lack of knowledge

Obviously you've just jumped on the tablet bandwagon and are not happy in fact very sad with your purchase

In the real world you are just 'playing on your £40 tablet'

It is very very funny how people get all nasty about something they do not fully understand and they just want to have a go at other more intelligent folk, especially the peecee versus mac argument

Carry on being happy in your little world Faniboy

Value wise, there is one in Lidl on Monday whilst only 7" (instead of 8" like this one) has a much higher specification with a quad core processor, higher resolution screen, bluetooth, slimmer, much lighter, metal case instead of plastic and if you don't like it you can just take it back.

Its the same price as this one in Sainsburys. Its from a known German company.

Sadly the iPad Air can not be described as a cheap tablet in any means of the word 'cheap'.

You may think it may work out cheaper, but, over the years as the other makes fall apart, slow down and do not keep up it will cost you more!

My experience with Apple products is that they may be initially more expensive but over the years they last much longer, so it works out cheaper. For example i had an Apple G3 desktop for 8 years. Then a G4 for 9 years. I sold them both for hundreds of pound on ebay , whereas, if they had been a pc they would have been sold, put in landfill, or shipped off to a third world country as they would have slowed down, fell apart etc. Through my brain not working logically, I bought a Dell PC laptop, it was delivered and from day one, it had a blue screen and it took 3 months for Dell to admit it was tripe and I received a full refund. I bought a MacBook in 2008 and it is still a great little work machine, it ll last a few more years!

I have worked on pc and Mac together side by side from the AppleMac Performa and Quadra days (1990's) and every time the mac wins hands down , very rarely crashes, unlike the pc based systems and is just.....sooo..sooo...easy to use. Quality kit. You will not regret it. Alternatively get a pc based tab and well, be restricted....OPEN YOUR WORLD...OPEN YOUR MIND...oh and open your wallet or purse !!

    Titter titter!

Open your mind to the locked down world of the app-store.

If Microsoft did some of the stuff Apple are doing with being anti-competitive than they would have been fined a lot more than they did for "forcing" internet explorer onto PCs by default.

But then you are safe, mother-apple won't allow any nasty apps to be allowed to be put onto the app-store (well apart from the free games which are pretty much useless unless you buy add-ons), nor will they allow nasty people with non apple phones to bluetooth files over.

I agree with you, but to keep the thread on track its best not rake over the Apple/PC/Android debate, just keep an eye out for good bargains. Just my thoughts.. :snow_grin:snow_grin:snow_grin:snow_grin:snow_grin

Is there anything about similar in spec but larger screen?

Depends what you want it for really, bigger quad core pushes prices up quickly, the smart thing with the Lidl one is they used quad cores but at a modest clock speed, it can draw on more cores when it needs the power but when just ticking over it preserves battery with lower clock speed.

Anyway, only dual core but by a good quality 9.7" IPS Glass screen this one is worth a look especially for movie watching or web browsing. Its got more of a 4:3 ratio screen than a 16:9 ratio widescreen. so will actually look a lot bigger than many 10" tablets as you get 35% more screen in this ratio' Decent sized memory and battery too.

Not bad at £109 (plus use Topcashback for more off)

Another larger screen 4:3 ration Tablet to take a look at, well known brand. ARCHOS 97 Cobalt

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/ipad-tablets-and-ereaders/tablets/archos-97-cobalt-9-7-tablet-8-gb-21780543-pdt.html

£119 Currys/PC world but claims to have a £20 cashback offer, although on the currently discounted price and reading the terms I suspect it would only be £10 on £119. (read terms carefully)

Plus Topcashback @%3 plus any other codes or discounts you can find.

Good points are dual 1.6GHZ processors and Quad graphics processors so it shouldn't be too shabby (its as much as many Samsung tablets have), metal casing and 4:3 9.7 screen, only 8GB storage though.
