Estate agent playing silly !!!!!!s

Nothing new i guess here but I went to see a property.

The asking price was £310,000 it was an old properly in need of a lot of work.

The agent said that the seller would take £300,000.

It's a bungalow- which the agent said you couldn't extend so did I really want to see it as he didn't want to waste his time so late in the evening. (This was last night)

My wife told him of our plans , side extension rear, and loft- much to my dismay. Even pointed out others had been done on the road etc,

I offered £300k. Agent calls back and says a cash buyer has offered £330k and can complete next week and so is off the market.

On top of that he has updated the advert to show "great investment property" and upped the asking to £349,000.

Is there anything I can do?

  • Not believe a word he says and walk away.
  • I know I am asking for a world of pain- But i really like the property! Is there anyway I can contact the owner.

To make things more difficult it's a probate property.

Next time explain to your wife that she needs to keep her mouth shut.

Walk away as he now knows he has you by the short and curlies.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Odd thing is estate agent isn't asking for offers. He is almost trying to throw me off the scent.

You have no idea , how annoyed I am at my wife right now.

Maybe he's got the property eyed up for a property developer mate of his.... so he's trying to put you off...... well it must happen a lot because property developers seem to get properties that us normal people have no hope of buying.... bribing, I mean incentivising your estate agent helps.

If the seller is still in the property can you not put a note through the door, with your offer and position in writing asking them to contact you directly?

    Just an idea.

Seems as if the vendor has realised the potential of the plot.

I wanted to do that but it's a probate property , and the children live miles away according to the agent. It was empty and definitely not lived in when I viewed it.

Exactly what I was thinking, sole agent and a cash buyer who is completing next week, really???

The Executors of the estate make the ultimate decision.
