Shouldn't be too long. When i ordered my new (8 cylinder) 458 Ferrari Spider from HR Owen in Knightsbridge at the start of December, they were able to source the car in 12 days and after a test drive and final payment, delivery to my door was made two weeks later.
Received her on January 5th this year.
Great serice by HR Owen, i highly recommend them!

the 5 doors in South Africa, it then gets shipped to Germany and then on from Germany to Grimsby.

That's why it takes so long then... You just have to hope that the ship doesn't sink on the way :p (sorry, couldn't resist!)

My factory-order Yaris Hybrid took 4 weeks from ordering to me picking it up despite the computer originally giving a 3 months lead time but there was no halfway-across-the-world-shipping involved!

  • Haha hopefully it doesnt sink...!

Well im hoping it comes the very first week of March, i know the factory would have been quiet over crimbo hence more of a wait.

think im just getting impatient and excited now as i order in November!

    eeeek

I would be gutted if buying a new car if I had to wait soo long.

Having to wait a week when recently buying a used car was just agony i was so excited!

Check the deal with updates on the sat nav, they often come out of date and updates have to be done by the dealer at eye watering prices.
    Be happy...;)

    March isn't too bad actually.

So you order your car in November, but VW UK don't send the order to plant until frist week of December.

And then car manufacturers have a product pipeline where about 6 to 8 weeks before the actual production date they "lock in" all the car specs: colour, engine, trim, options. They use this time to order and organise all the parts - it is a "just in time" system - they build the car in South Africa, but the engine comes from Germany or China, transmission from Spain or Slovakia, wiring harness from China, some interior trim from Brazil, etc.

Then shipping from SA should be no more than additional 3 weeks, plus local pre-delivery and transport. So I guess your car will have January/February 2013 build date.

And your car won't be offloaded in Germany - the ship will go to Emden port to pick a few thousand UK-destined VWs, Skodas and Audis, then arrive in UK.

So a 10+ week wait for a factory ordered car is quite normal.

  • Hey guys!!

Well this week (6) is my build week so little Percy should be getting built as we speak but does anyone know according to this info when i should actually receive the car?

I dont want to keep getting on my dealers nerves by emailing but i havent been given a delivery date or anything.

This is my first new car so understandably im a tad excited.

Just want it to hurry up and get here! SA seems so far away lol
