Perception Poll - The woman in the Oxfam advert

It's a very worthy cause, she's being compassionate, the point being raised is a good one.
But yet I can't help but think that it grates as sounds very whiny!
I'm interested to find out if it's just me, and how others perceive her.

I have to say I don't find her at all whiny.0

It's taken me a while to realise which advert you are refering to. You mean the one where the lady who donates every month goes to Africa and visits a mother with twins, and then goes to see an Oxfam project?
If it is that one then no I don't find her whiny at all.0 -
tbh I do find her 'whiny'...sure she's a lovely lady and it is advertising a good cause...but her voice really grates on me and her whole tone seems patronising and condescending...could just be me?0

I find that ad very 'false'! its way too contrived - do Oxfam really pick a person who donates and then flies them out to visit 'needy' people? whats next? Dogs trust filming a person visiting 'thier' adopted dog in the kennels?0

I find her very annoying but I can't put my finger on why. I've seen better ads for charities.:j Tehya Baby DD 22/03/2012 :j

I can't say I've seen that ad, but I'll be looking out for it nowEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Thank you for the replies. I'm glad it's not just me, although the fact that not everyone finds her annoying is reassuring as I would otherwise be ranting on(and wondering) about why on earth Oxfam would deliberately use a whiny person on an expensive ad! Lol.
Vikkii, for me, it's her voice and manner of speaking, it's the hint of, but not full blown, somewhere between little girl and a die-away manner.0 -
Tbh I find all these charity adverts a bit preachy and patronising and the Oxfam one is just one of them. I don't know if it's the season, or whether because I've been off work I've had the tv on at the optimum time for them or what, but there seem to be loads of them. They're more likely to encourage me NOT to donate rather than have the desired effect.
Eta, my most hated one, I couldn't tell you what charity it's for, is one where animals are being mistreated, but if you weren't looking at the pictures you'd think they were talking about children "so and so's mother was shot and she was forced to work for food" etc...... It's almost a parody of a charity ad. Imo.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
I think that's just her voice, you can't help the way your voice sounds so it seems a bit mean spirited to complain about it.
I think its a pretty good advert, maybe just seeing starving children isn't enough for lots of people but seeing a British woman in that setting is more affecting.0 -
The thing that annoys me is how fake the advert is.....how many people did they ring and ask if they want to go to Zimbabwe?
She must donate £100 a month! :eek:Now a SAHM trying to earn some spare pennies each month0
