I will try to join in as I did a big shop this morning before logging on. Now that's what I call timing! ;).
I have enough milk until this time next week, although I might have to fall back on the emergency longlife (wants using up anyway, expires next month). Bread could be tricky, but I have plenty of spuds so will try to make some sort of substitutions to our usual meals. Luckily hubs takes fruit to work now instead of sandwiches!

Can I just have 60p please, for the local paper? Normally I would manage without, but I pass it on to the parents, so there isn't really an alternative to buying it on Thursday.

Oh and perhaps just a teensy little 70p for the Saturday paper too - I would settle for a 30p TV guide but hubby insists on the real mccoy, then complains that no-one ever reads the actual paper!

Not as easy as you think it's going to be, is it? :p
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

LOL - have you checked your library to see if they keep current copies of the local or national papers? If they don't, ask them why not and if they *could*?

If you don't ask, you don't get ... and you *could* get ...

... a saving of £1.30 and a trip out with hubby if he can be convinced ;)

    OK..........forget that idea then!:o

Not that I've ever drank long life/UHT milk, but this reminded my of the episode of Father Ted 'Speed 3', in which Dougal becomes a milkman.

IIRC, Dougal asks about the UHT Milk, to which the dairy boss replies, 'Ah don't worry about that, no one drinks it, cause its s****'

(I never swear in real life btw, let alone on an excellent forum!

    Cheers

    Sorry to but in here...:o

Could you not freeze some bread? I found we wasted a lot, especially when working. Now I only buy bread reduced and freeze it and use when required.

What about using your local library for newspapers?

    HTH;)

Indeed I do freeze bread and have been doing so for ages. I take out how many slices I need for sandwiches, butter and add filling. By lunch time it has defrosted and I have fresh sandwiches.

Don't really need newspapers...we never buy one. All I need is this site to tell me what is going on.

Thanks for the replies both of you. I could indeed freeze bread if I had some spare, but not realising I was going to join in this challenge I didn't buy any today, as we already have most of a loaf in the fridge.

As for the papers, my parents (86 & 90) can't get out, so if they are going to see the local paper it is up to me to pass it on to them. The Saturday paper which we get for the TV mag is non-negotiable (who does that expression remind me of? ;)) - he who must be obeyed requires this small weekly indulgence! (Personally I would check the schedules online, but he is computerphobic and I am not prepared to spend every evening sitting here telling him what to watch next!).

He is kindly eating with some pretence of enjoyment the mish-mash that I've just served for tea (been trying to get all the old stuff out of the freezer)... garlic flatbread 75p (reduced), spinach and ricotta pasta (free due to Co-op bogof combined with reduced), 16p tin of dented peas (I still love that expression - I hardly found any dented ones on inspection!) and the last of the Christmas roast spuds. Guestimate £1.20 for both of us.

Oops sorry, I seem to have wandered off topic...:o.

First point I want to sneak in is this - re paint - when you do decide it is spending time again (next week) get your paint from Wilkinsons if you can. It is SO cheap, and has the best coverage of any paint. Suffice to say, when I returned to a house I had been renting out in 2001, Wilkinsons Magnolia emulsion successfully covered in 2 coats, the walls the tenants had painted in gloss Navy Blue.

I second this advice, I use Wilkinson's paint and it is great, their gloss is really good too,

I have not "suggested" to my husband that we should decorate the nursery, nor have I "nagged" him about it. Again this is your (wholly unjustified & very offensive) interperatition. I actually said "we have decided", which clearly implies it was a joint decision. This is twice you have passed judgement based on inaccurate paraphrasing.

and can I just add that Pal is joking, having a laugh, not to be taken seriously
