What kind of thing should write in my letter to the garage?if anyone could help please
Theres no point in writing to the garage untill you know what caused the problem.
You need the car examined and a report done ...you will have to wait untill you know your facts

The CAB helpline said I should write to the garage first

Anyway I have spoken to another electrician about finding the cause out for me and he said first things first the mechanic at the garage should not have done wiring work in the first place because it has to be done by qualified electrician

So what are you going to write to them about ????

If you accuse them of being liable they will deny it and say prove it. Without any proof it won't stand up in court.

You don't know whether the garage used an electrician to do the work or whether or not if it was a regular mechanic who did the job also has qualifications in electrics ???

Instead of trying to lay blame without any proof try and obtain some before you proceed otherwise, it's going to waste everyones time.

You need to get the report done before you let the garage have their own experts give an opinion by the way

It was just two of the regular mechanics who did it and I don't they are qualified electricians because they said they called in another electrician to look at it,they wouldn't have to do this if they were already qualified??

I'm taking the vehicle to another electrician tomorrow to find out what exactly caused the problem, like you say that's the only way to prove who's in the wrong

Lets say the mechanics are not qualified electricians, are the garage in trouble?

    Thanks for your help

    Not realy no.

They will only be in trouble if the car had been repaired in a dangerous manner.

The qualifications these days cover electrics in most circumstances due to the vast amount of electrical equipment fitted on cars.

Are you a member of the AA or RAC ? They would be ideal to do a report for you. Have you made sure the electrician you arranged is prepared to do a written report on his findings ?

If you ask them to get involved they will examine the car and do a report on it ...they will charge you but it will be very hard to dispute with a recognised organisation such as the RAC.
If it was me and the electrician you are going to use thinks it's been caused by the garage I would use the RAC and claim the costs back in court. No harm in ringing them to start with
