Half the fun of buying a guitar is hanging around in the shops.0

Find a local independent and stay outside in the car until he comes out for the cash. I would take a magazine as you could be waiting quite a while.0

pmt near the think tank in Birmingham city centre has a caf! up stairs the last time we went there I went for a coffee while my son went looking at guitars once he found what he wonted he came looking for me for his money0 -
im in Staffordshire
and I know at least 2 big musical retail shops in Birmingham
ive told my son that when he wonts to buy another guitar I will take him to brum myself and he can spend all day in the shop till he finds one he likes
Aha! Snap!
I'd recommend Academy of Sound in Hanley, they have a really decent sale on as well at the minute though I cant find the PDF I saw at the weekend with the sale prices:

The other shops on Hope Street in Hanley are good as well, all of them will let him try the guitars and find what is right for him. Rhythm House are rather brilliant, the guy who owns that is very helpful. He took my daughters electronic drum pedal home to test rather than just sell me a new lead
Good luck

I'm not sure you have any remedy under the SOGA. The retailer simply state the colour code as given by the manufacturer, it just so happens that the manufacturer's idea of "arctic white" is a more of a cream, off-white. You can't rely on the website photo either when it comes to colour reproduction unless you have a professionally, colour calibrated monitor, and even then it'll still be down to the original picture. For example, looking via my monitor I can clearly see that the body is off-white and definitely a different shade to the white pickup board (if that's what you call it)0

If they had a disclaimer stating images might not show actual colour, I might agree. But as it stands, i'm not so sure. After all they'd consider the situation of a "reasonable" consumer. Most consumers wont have professionally calibrated monitors. Something can be technically correct but still deemed misleading/inaccurate. And since obviously pictures are considered as part of the description.....
FWIW I have obtained a refund twice for the exact reason being discussed under SoGA (including them refunding return postage costs) from 2 different companies. One of them did indeed have a disclaimer that actual colour may be slightly different but they backed down when I pointed out that imo, light/baby pink vs dusky pink is significantly different.
Of course I might just have gotten lucky. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Seconding JoshP, the GuitarGuitar store in birmingham is just on the edge of the city centre, so you could exchange there.
Failing that, PMT is fab, as is Fairdeal Music by New Street station.
There's also a lovely little guitar shop in Solihull town centre too, and a fair few on the centre of Wolves, all depends which is easiest for you to get to.

My car is described as being Arctic white and it's obvious to anybody that it's very white. To me Arctic white is the colour of fresh snow.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0
