Out of interest why don't you pay with a credit card? and get cashback (Aqua) even if your credit is not tip top.
I don't have credit cardsI don't like them. And because VIP sale is only for next account holders I had no chance to pay for items in my shopping bag with a debit card. I see now that this was a very wrong decision ... I would have been better of with just going to Next store and buying whatever was left for my kids

i had the balance going up and down a few years ago but lately it has been stuck at 3600 i would have preferred it to be down.
i have been a customer of next for about 10 years same as op bought all my sons clothes there and my own. But lately quality of clothing has gone right down hill. the material is so thin. my tops especially are so thin you can see throught them.. i have most recently been overlooked for the vip slots and tend to get the last ones when nothing is left. next dont care about loyal customers. i have spend thousands over the years with them. I purchased an electrical item in the sale this time it was late by 2 weeks when it arrived it was faulty and i had to send it back. i phoned to complain and was told well we can order you another one at the full asking price !!!! NO why would i want to now pay full price.
i am now avidly paying off my bill and hope that by next month it will be paid in full and i am closing my account i shall have pleasure in cutting up card and sending back.
i sympathise with you op next seem to be able to do what they want when they want and now i am no longer ever going to shop with them again stops the stress of waiting for a vip slot and having to queue at store at 4am !!

It seems to me that no one bothers to fight them thinking they are "a big fish" and no one can't do nothing about it. They were supposed to replace faulty item at the same price unless that's why it was on sale - because it was faulty0

This is interesting:
A standard term is unfair 'if, contrary to the requirement of good faith, it causes a significant imbalance in the parties' rights and obligations arising under the contract, to the detriment of the consumer'– Regulation 5(1).
Unfair terms are not enforceable against the consumer.
The requirement of 'good' faith embodies a general 'principle of fair and open dealing'.1 It means that terms should be expressed fully, clearly and legibly and that terms that might disadvantage the consumer should be given appropriate prominence – see below. However transparency is not enough on its own, as good faith relates to the substance of terms as well as the
way they are expressed and used. It requires a supplier not to take
advantage of consumers' weaker bargaining position, or lack of experience, in deciding what their rights and obligations shall be. Contracts should be drawn up in a way that respects consumers' legitimate interests.
Their clause in terms and conditions about reserving to change credit limit at any time.....When i spoke to the manager he said that they reviewing credit limit in the middle of the month (so it's around 15th - 17th ). My credit was increased on the 29th of the month and then reduced on the 23rd of next month. On the 22nd of December online it was still showing 900.00 pounds that is when i made purchase. Am I crazy to think that there is something wrong here? ")0 -
Something similar happened to me a few years ago, my limit was £1500 for a while and I paid off a lump sum of about £800 and they reduced my credit limit to £1000, no phone call or letter. At the time I had paperless statements and on-line where it says what your credit limit is - it's actually your current credit limit and not what your credit limit was at the time your statement was produced, so I had to phone them up to find out when they had actually reduced it. Needless to say I wasn't very happy about not being informed and have now reverted back to statements through the post.
My Next account is currently my cheapest form of credit, and whilst I agree the quality of the womens clothes has gone rapidly downhill, I feel the kids stuff is just as good as anywhere else.£2013 in 2013 £866.71/£2013

I doubt they will do anything about it, as at the end of the day it's their money and they can choose who they want to do business with.
I have a feeling they may use this system;

Hi there, I feel your pain on this one, happened to me A LOT! One month £150, next £0, then £250 for a few months, then £0, then £500...anyway long story short, was upped to £1500 which they then removed, and it remained removed, until I complained.....
I had a call from a woman based in Leicester, very helpful, she gave me her direct line number, my argument was how is upping my limit, removing it etc responsible lending, I also argued I'd not missed one payment, had managed a £1500 limit previously, as well as the fact that the result of their actions on my credit file could be detrimental.
She agreed with me, said it was a system based decision and not a manual one, she advised it was due to the company becoming more stringent on credit file information and it updates on the 18th of every month (manual feed from CRA's) she agreed to reinstate my limit and monitor it for six months (as system may remove it again) - but if they did she would re-add it. Result for me, but after two months of monitoring it has now settled at £1500....for now!!0 -
My limit is several £0000 albeit I only purchase the odd thing from them and always settle in full well before the deadline date. The customer service team in my view is excellent and on the odd occasion when there has been something wrong has settled the matter quickly and usually offered some form of redress. Limit never changes.0
