Glad I read this thread, thinking of a new car in March, was going to go for a Nav spec car, I guess I'd be better off going for a lower spec and sticking to the old windscreen mouted unit.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0

The SatNav DVD in my car is from 2004 and I still use it to get me around the country for training courses. As I keep my eyes open, away from a constant stare at the SatNav screen and actually pay attention to road signs and layouts (allowing me to adjust/tweak my route if necessary), I rarely have any issues with directions and locating my destination.

Don't understand why anyone would pay £1000 for an Satnav option when you can pick up a perfectly good one of under £100 and take it with you when you change cars. Not very MSE

Well I wouldn't normally, however I'm looking at Vauxhall Mokka Techline which is the same spec as the Exclusive but with SatNav and it is cheaper than the Exclusive (Vauxhall RRP)I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

Or buy a map book for £5 and use that in conjunction with the interweb.0 -
Postcode lookup has been standard on Tomtom stand alone satnav devices for quite a few years now. I would be very disappointed to find one sold as a £1000 option did not include this basic but very useful feature.

I guess that the built-in SatNav must come from one of the majors such as Garmin or TomTom. These along with just about every make/model of satnav run a Linux o/s so with a bit of digging, you should find info on how to install openmaps.Never Knowingly Understood.
