Water Heating not working, CH fine

There is no diverter valve I can see. The water supply to heat the tank is large diameter pipe. Is it possible that water heating siphons and the radiators are pumped?

Any suggestions for getting hot water working again?

Thank you for your reply. It's a Potterton Kingfisher MF RS50 floor mounted boiler. This replaced a solid fuel boiler.

The reason you can't see a diverter valve is that it doesn't have one. It's not a combi, it's a conventional boiler feeding hot water to your tank.
Are you talking about a 3 port valve, which may be near the hot tank, maybe in the airing cupboard? If you can find that, give the lever a wiggle and see if you can free it off-it may be sticking.

Motors gone on the 3 port valve, easy DIY fix to replace you just need the make and model; go to a good plumbers merchant or ebay to get a new one.
    Good video here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yyn_fBEH90U

If you can deduce from the info given that the actuator's definitely failed, then you must have southcoastrgi's crystal ball in your possession...
It's certainly one of a number of possibilities.

If you have no port valve, it will be a Gravity system. Check you have water in the small tank in the loft. Some Gravity systems dont have a small tank, they fill up by the large tank, as they use a Primatic cylinder. If its a primatic there maybe a small vent on the side of the cylinder, but be very careful when trying to open it.

If you have a airlock, maybe best to draindown the whole system and refill.

Given the symptoms there are only 6 possibilities.
Heating systems other than the boiler itself are simple things. Assuming the timer or the thermostats are not playing up and it is very rare that they do, it only leaves the 3 way valve and it is most often the motor but second often the gearing and all three can be easily check by a layman by manually putting the valve in the mid position - see video mentioned.

OP. Please ignore the 'Experts' and follow Plumb1's advice as in post 8. You have given enough clues for him to have diagnosed your fault with reasonable probability

the OP hasn't given anywhere near enough clues about anything, we don't know he has a primatic cylinder or that it is gravity hotwater, or wether he has a mid pos valve, if it is fully pumped, in fact the only thing we do know is the make & model of the boiler, so for you to say what you have is as stupid as what post 8 says.

even the "experts" as you put it need to know what they are suppost to be trying to fault find.

so OP i suggest you ignore posts 6,8,9,10 until you can post more info as to your system
