I took Vauxhall up on a similar offer last year for the Vectra 48hr Test Drive promotion they were doing at the time. Although with that one you could book online. A shiny new 3.2ltr V6 Vectra was delivered to me at work and collected 2 days later. The only T&Cs were a £150 deposit and you left it with the same amount of fuel as it was delivered with. On returning the car, I quickly got my £150 refunded to my credit card, and not a single salesman has called me since. :)

I will be taking Vauxhall up on this new offer provided I get the Astra Sporthatch I want.... :)

Having worked in vauxhalls for the last 20 years, The new Astra is probably the best Astra we have made, give it a test drive, If you are a careful driver the deposit should'nt worry you, and if you like it and want to buy one there are 4000 british workers that would be extremely happy to stay in a job and not go down the same road as our rover counterparts, Enjoy your test drive.

Sorry to disagree with you all about the new Astra Sport, I think it looks great, don't know about the drive I'll tell you about that when I have one (in a few years when they come down in price!!) ;)

To be honest, from the pictures ive seen of it, it looks very much like the audi a3 in style but not quite as good.

You must be mistaken it's a much better car and audi won't even bother giving you a 3 day test drive ;);)

I have to agree with beastoid...!!!

I regularly drive all sorts of cars in the UK and in mainland Europe as hire cars and the new Astra is about the best I have recently driven.

Case in point, I am currently working in Germany and have a new Mercedes A Class, whilst the drive is reasonable, the rear view mirrors show more of the side and rear of the car than the actual road...!!!

It's all personal taste I know and i've never driven an Audi so can't comment on them , but i've driven Vauxhalls for many years and the New Astra is a cut above. The ride and handling is excellent and at £2000 cheaper than an Audi , it's excellent value too.

Yep, its all down to personal taste. I drove pretty much all of the competitors to the a3/a4, incl the 3 series bmw and decided that the a3 was the best drive & looks wise. The only thing which stopped me buying one in the end was the fact that they hold their value very well which meant that the 2->3year old car i was looking for was going to cost a fortune still.

Will be interesting to see how the astra`s value compares when its 2->3 years old as vauxhalls & fords tend to depreciate fairly quickly.

Just thinking about it, if the astra is 2k cheaper than the audi, then it must be the same price as the vw golf? Vauxhall must be very confident in the car to be trying to sell it for that sort of price.

I'd take a 10 year old BMW over a new Astra any day. I drove a Vauxhall for 6 years, so it's not about "badge snob". Just that BMW is rear wheel drive and engineered for driving satisfaction and Vauxhall is front wheel drive and engineered for production cost. Not that all cars aren't just a value engineering decision.

The VX220 is a noticeable exception and I read about the amount of work Vauxhall did to make the Elise meet acceptable quality standards. I'm hoping that the non-turbo VX220s will depreciate sufficiently to consider buying one one day. Then again the older MX5s are cheap now.
