  • It might be worth mentioning that as a company car driver I can choose a SAAB, as they are also part of General Motors.

yes, that will be a downside, I'm sure, as they can be somewhat erm, shall we say, persistent

Although im noticing some garages are getting better. BMW a few years back were very persistant, but more recently (in my experience) they have really eased off on the sales preasure. Audi on the other hand are mad. After driving one the other month they must have given me a dozen phone calls to try and get me to buy it. I guess it might just depend on how desperate the sales person is to meet their monthly targets.

Warning to those thinking of this!! Theres quite a hefty Insurance Excess (if things go bump in the night (or day). So that free 3 day Astra experience, could cost you an arm and a leg, and £250! if your unlucky.

My brother used to work in a garage spraying Ferraris and other sports cars, one day they had a ferrari turn up which had been on a test drive and the driver hit a lamp post (that then fell straight on the car) the salesman ended up in hospital.

How old do you have to be monki_man?

Also on the point about pushy sales men - when recently testing the new Ford Focus (for £25 quids worth of nectar points :) ) I found them to be not pushy at all. SImply told them that I was not looking to buy until July when the warranty on my current car ran out (total lie), he said can I give you a call in July then and I said sure. If he actually gets through I may even buy the Focus as I gave him the wrong number!!! ;)

Last week there was a TVR salesman killed when the customer crashed on a test drive. :(
Why pay more than you have to?

My local Audi dealer has a £500 excess for any claim on it's loan cars, so that makes £250 seem a bargain :D

It is a well worked scam in the trade to charge customers over and over again for the same scratch/dink/cracked reg plate or wheel trim the list is endless and many such faults are unoticable (unless you know they are there) and people are generally too excited, or in the case of car hire usually in too much of a hurry, because they thought you would be tossing the keys out the window to them as they ran past just like the ten or so people in the queue in front of them currently completing documents did!and you can guarantee some of the dealerships will have a go, I have seen people invoiced for missing dustcaps before now!

But nice spot all the same just a word or two of caution

Just phoned the local Vauxhall dealership for details on this.
You have to leave a £500 deposit in case of damage to the vehicle. Now, whilst I wouldn't expect to be having an accident, it's a hefty excess to take a chance on for 3 days.
