Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 6th January 2013 - . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Hugs to Jools, LW & Molly
Can't sleep, this cold is really taking it's toll, I'm coughing & sneezing, I have face ache, itchy eyes & sore ears, deep joy, still lots of people are worse off, so I'll stop moaning.
Work tomorrow & 5:30 start, so at least I'm in the swing of early starts.
No real plans for today, the fish tank was cleaned yesterday & I ran the vacuum round up stairs. I need to load the car up with all the CS stuff, I'll pass it on tomorrow to a work colleague who fund raises for charity. Work clothes are all ready, I'm cooking roast lamb for lunch & then I'll relax & get an early night.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

  • Good morning Hester and to all who cross/follow,
Not sure what the weather is doing here today. I am taking Jasper out for a long walk so i hope it doesn't rain.
We are getting a little bit of money today because we have sold something. It will be enough for us to get a coal fire. We would like a log burner but just can't afford that. We had a coal fire in the house we lived in before.
The girls go back to school tomorrow and i go back Tuesday. It has been nice having the time off.
Chicken with potatoes and vegetables for tea tonight.
Hester, i hope you feel better soon. The colds/coughs seem to be hanging about for longer than usual.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning Hester and all who follow!

Today I hope to be out in the garden if its dry. Talking to OH over last few days and are planning to grow more veg, so the laurel tree has to make way for the strawberries which need moving so the greenhouse can go in. Need to move a few tree stumps too!!

Thought that we could at least make a start on it. Another one for roast lamb here, and as my friend and her children are here, have raided the cupboards and made a trifle for puddings!! Washing all done yesterday and put on the airer in front of the log burner last night. Half the ironing done, and school tomorrow. All parents exhale!!!

Wandering if the cold weather will arrive. Love snow in that everything stops!! Positive vibes to all x
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • Morning everyone!
Work was long and busy yesterday... I think I was asleep by 10pm last night.
Going to metrocentre with my BF today - shopping and Nando's. Looking forward to that!
I have tomorrow off too, so I think I will have a pottering about, 'me' day.
Hope everyone has a good day!
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j

    Morning All

HH - Hope that cold leaves you soon.
JackieO - Good news that Tessa has an interview, hope it goes well. Here's hoping your June appt is all good news too.
Sistercas - The next month will go quickly, it's always difficult when they go away again.

Bit the bullet yesterday and wrestled the 8ft christmas tree outside, it was easier to drag it through the house and clear up after, I had considered cutting the branches off first as it was so wide. At least we have wooden floors so I could sweep all those pesky needles up.

Went with DD to friends for tea which was lovely and then played games with the children. Need to sew the lining on DDs jacket this morning before she goes to work and then continue sorting through my jewellery to tidy it all up.

Enjoy your Sundays. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Just getting light but looking to be dry here this morning.

Dinner last night was the breaded chicken pieces/fish that didn't get eaten on Friday night, had new potatoes/jacket potato, pasta salad etc to accompany - according to DH again another meal not right - should have had something else with it - like beans etc, just didn't say anything - if I don't answer back he has no-one to argue with and this seems to work very effectively! Although I was seething and he could quite easily had his dinner in his lap! as he left the house at 7.30am yesterday morning and didn't get back until gone 4.15pm - I was starting to worry where he was as the route he has to take has several real nasty accident blackspots and I'd tried to ring him to see what time he would be back and he had his phone switched off, and when he came in he said he'd forgotten to switch his phone back on once he'd finished the meeting, well thanks very much! Did manage to get all the ironing done up to date, so will start the week with a clean slate, will be setting myself little targets of things I want to get done this week, so at least when I go back to work I will have a list of jobs that I have achieved. I've decided to go to next town tomorrow - I'll take the boys with me and have a birthday treat of breakfast out and then take shirt back to shop that I bought for DS1 for Xmas - hoping to get a credit note then will use this against a purse to go with my new handbag. DS1 didn't like the shirt as soon as I showed it to him before Xmas but I haven't had time to take it back yet.

Lunch today is roast chicken, will do roasties, mash, carrots, brussels, broccolli, leeks, peas, stuffing, yorkshires and gravy - wanted to get a cauli to do cauli/broccolli cheese but caulis were so small didn't want to waste my money!

DH got to go and collect his van this morning ready for work tomorrow - we possibly will go out to visit outlaws and my parents once he's got back, but apart from that we won't be doing much - possibly try to continue with the shredding of old paperwork that I started yesterday - this is going to be an ongoing operation as there's loads and shredders can only do so much at a time etc.

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

A misty morning here. The cat has decided that the clean fleece blanket on my lap is too good to miss.

Washed one load. Will put next load on. Then hang them to dry. So that's work stuff sorted.

Going to have egg on toast for breakfast and some fruit.

Desperately need to tidy the freezer as hubby insists there's only one of bulk made meals, I'm sure it's all in there.

    Right time to move :j
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

Happy Birthday Nmlc I hope you have a good day
Ironing to do today, and the washing I put out yesterday can stay for a bit longer as its not looking as though its going to dry much today I'll bring it in later and put it on the airer in the conservatory.
Looks a bit misty outside ,but its not cold at the moment . Eldest DD will be down later for coffee and biscuits no doubt.Dinner at youngest DDs later on as they have dinner in the evening.I am taking my doughnut maker round as the boys want some home made doughnuts.I am sure I have chocolate left over in the fridge that I can use to melt down and decorate them with.
Hope everyone has a good day
    Cheers chums
