Kiln dried logs are another bugbear! All kiln dried means is that they've been in a kiln and are drier than when they went in it. Yet they always stick on a dirty great premium on the price as they hype them up as "the best logs you can buy" In a half decent summer, properly seasoned air dried logs will be just as dry, if not drier than KD. Many KD suppliers shift an awful lot - which they don't have room to sit on while it dries - so they buy green, process it and then kiln dry it for a short period. It doesn't mean it's any better than "normal price" logs though!0

Dont get mad Willie perhaps I made a mistake. I will tell you what I was quoted. They suppled 3 barrowbags which THEY said equalled 1cubic mt = 1 TN. Is this incorrect?0

I pay £75 per cubic mt. At least this is what I was quoted!!0

Reference hardwood log suppliers. Anybody suggest good competitive supplier. I live in the West Midlands?0

Bit of a dirty trick to me.
Wet wood weighs more so anything to do with weight isn't really a good guide.
I'm told that on average a dumpy bag holds 0.6m3 and less than half a tonne (although how much less is up for debate as it depends on how wet the wood is).
I found a site (gosforth logs) that uses barrow bags (and i quote)
"A barrow bag is 0.25m³/ 9ft³. A barrow bag contains about 50 logs and therefore will last between 2 and 4 weeks depending on usage and size of fire. Barrow bags have a refundable £5 deposit when returned in an appropriate condition. Barrow bags weigh about 1cwt/50kg"

On that basis 3 barrow bags is approx 0.75m3 and no where near half a tonne.
The entire process of buying wood is a mine field sadly.0 -

Hi gornalboy,
wasnt getting mad, maybe I used the wrong smilie.
My appologies.
Was just trying to say that a standard builders bag holds just over half a cubic metre loose filled.
As has been said best not to buy by weight (wet wood is heavier), buy by volume.
£75 per cubic meter is a very good price if good well seasoned logs. :money:
