Today is my first day of Feb GC. A £2 spend on toothbrushes. I always replace them on the 1st of the month. (Not every month). Luckily we sell them as the temptation of going into the SM would have been too much.
I was paid today and the money is burning a hole in my pocket!
I have an excellent evening and feel totally domesticated and thrifty. I made my tea, Lamb, spinach and chickpea curry. I made SC Lemon Curd, and spicy roast parsnip soup for work next week. Yum yum. My first attempt at the lemon curd and it's yum. (So is the soup but that's less exciting).
I am getting more adventurous. I've always been a keen cooker of savory meals but I'm scared of baking. I want to try to make HM cakes and biscuits. Any suggestions where to start?Grocery Challenge January 2013 282/300

Hello all!
First spend of the month - didn't do well because I woke up lateand didn't have time for breakfast - so £1.40 spent in Co-op. I did have leftovers from last night for lunch but it's not a perfect start.
Housemate cooked tonight - turkey, hoisin, chilli and green bean noodles. Tomorrow I'm doing Jerk chicken (sorry turkey breasts), using a few teaspoons of impulse Jerk paste from Borough market a while pack, which is unopened. It's currently marinating in the fridge and will be served with rice and peas!
Hope everyone is wellGrocery Challenge Jan 24 0/300

Made a very frugal and healthy dinner of a veggie casserole (had carrots, parsnips, mushrooms and onions) with herby cheese dumplings and a massive pile of cabbage - got a portion left for lunch tomorrow, too:
Also used up some stale cornflakes (OH got bored of them halfway through the pack and I don't like them) to make cornflake cakes for snacks this weekend:
Starting the new month off well, hopefully

Oh dear - Mr F has told me what he spent today.
I am spent out for the week and gone into next week's money.:o
I asked him to get some of the 38p washing up liquid in Mr As.. -- he got two. Also got two Fairy - 87p each - mega bottles. I wash up once a day - most stuff goes in the dishwasher. - we will not be buying washing up liquid for quite a while.
Mr F got 2 mangoes for £1 in the local GG shop and a bag of casualty tomatoes - 50p. Then he bought toilet rolls, dog biscuits, hot pepper sauce, baking powder, ground cloves, milk plus other bits - ssh! - some sweets.
So a grand total of £15.80 :eek:Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Spent €33.90 today in Aldi, was rather naughty and bought 8 pots of their delicious yogurt...for me, should only be spending on necessities but they are good for me.
Hoping to do better this month than last, good luck everybody

Wow, its such a long time since I took part in the GC that I forgot how fast this thread moves, up to 21 pages already.
Had a huge Tesco order for £108.00 and spent another £9.00 in Sainsburys and £6.00 today in Iceland. This leaves me £117.00. Going Aldi for the first time tomorrow since before Christmas, really need some minced beef and tins of tuna so im going to stock up and planning on spending up to £50.00.
2 week dinner plan has been drawn up and we are actually sticking to it. I dont need to but anything for the dinners so not planning on spending too much after the Aldi trip, probably ust Fruit and milk, maybe some veg.March 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000 -
Did a big stock up in Home Bs and Ald* tonight, which has made a hyowge dent in budget:
Home B: Spent £26.20 on teabags, toilet roll, lunchbox snacks, "naughty snacks", 2x Robinsons squash, toothbrushes, toothpastes, mouthwash, tissues & storecupboardies
Aldi: Spent £62.75 on weekly shop + stockup of frozenies, reduced bread rolls for freezer, alcohol etc. (completely stuffed trolley so can see where it went :-)
Used £5 off voucher + the 30% off muesli one so it was definitely worth the price of the paper yesterday.
Bit traumatised bout the spend, but it was almost all needed, and a few treats at the start of the month will give us all a bit of a boost as last week was HARD with empty cupboards...June GC 21st May - 20th June (£78/£200)0 -
Please could you put me down for £135 again this month? I managed to come in at £7.86 under in January, so I'm finally, six months in to the GC getting the hang of it! (And considering I started off at £150 and had a really hard time keeping to that, I think it's working!)
My Christmas present from OH was a slicer, and I love it! It has two blades, one works well on bread, the other on meat and raw veg. Electric carving knives scare the flip out of me.Better is good enough.0
