The problem with your argument is that the Strivers that are being hit (and vulnerable) most and that is Labours point and the Tory Achilles heal. If you think that it is Labour on the back foot about this you are from a different planet.

Well if it's a different planet it's the same planet as most of the broadcast media, and much of the press. What does vulnerable mean regarding someone in work ? Can't afford to eat, keep a roof over their head, or avoid hypothermia ? Or does it mean can't afford nice to haves and luxuries ? Above all, how do you know ?

What does 'as a whole' mean? What about the Age allowance being scrapped? What about the move from RPI?

Average retirement income has dropped to its lowest level in six years, an insurer has warned.

This year's retirees can expect a typical annual income of £15,300, making them around £3,400 a year worse off than workers who retired on £18,700 in 2008, Prudential said.

Pensioners have faced a perfect storm of high living costs and low returns on their savings, while plunging annuity rates have wiped thousands of pounds off retirees' incomes in recent years.

    The government actuary

Does 15% if true, rather than a hole in the census data, invalidate the general trend?

The population figures up to 2010 are based on rolling projections from the previous census - 2001.

The new stake in the ground is 2011 census.

Going forward to 2020 the longevity and the population figures will be projected from the 2011 census.

Could it be that life expectancy beyond the age of 65 has been over estimated?

The other thing the census found was that the general population was higher than the rolling projections.

George. Some times when people get caught up in themselves and start putting the world to rights on internet forums, it can be easy to lose sight of how one comes across.

You are basically coming across as a nasty, arrogant, ranting man, who seems to have beef with everyone who doesn't fit your extraordinarily narrow definition of respectability.

You hate young people, you hate people getting married, you hate people less well off than you, you hate anyone who comments on the less well off as left wing.

Do you think your life might be a bit happier if you chilled out a bit?

    Just saying is all.
