Why should we pay for their waitrose shop and purple rinse when we won't be getting anywhere near a good a deal? What happens when life expectancy reverses?

My generation is being SCREWED to pay for the profligacy of those old crones that never paid enough into the system and wanted gold plated healthcare paid for by someone else!

The only way this will get sorted is a rise to 77 in 5 years time. Make sure the boomers get the same as they expect their kids to get!

It's interesting that recipients of non-age related welfare are roundly criticised for getting given too much whereas anyone that suggests that perhaps age related payments are too high is some kind of bastad stealing the food from the mouths of war heroes.

    Umm...

    Who votes?
    Who buys newspapers?
    I think....
  • Quite a few of them have popped their clogs since the last election - and we have a new swathe of bright young labour-educated voters coming through.

What have papers got to do with anything any more? Outdated gov propaganda, same with media - its all about social media mnow as we will see in 2015,like US

My Mum started work in 1948 aged 14 and worked till she was 75. She deserves every penny of her pension.

You will be getting a very good Forces pension paid for by the tax payer, won't you?.

    look on the bright side
by the time you get to retirement age (whatever that will be) your generation will be

    - decimated by drug resistant strains of virus
    - ruled by asian hordes
    - or wiped out by nuclear war
    - or climate change will haved caused the UK to sink into the sea.

so better those boomers spend the loot now rather than see it all wasted.

If the state pension is to be £155 a week thats very good news.
Bad news is of course 70 yo + before you can claim it...
Really think the government is missing a trick here as they could merge the winter fuel payments in with it...a bit of a vote winner for some.
How to pay..well its simple...scrap higher rate pension tax relief from 40% to 20% for all contributions...saving £7bn a year.
Pensioner perks and even Care homes would be covered by this £7bn...thats a fact.
Trouble is with retiring over 70 yo...are we fit enough to work..I can see many claiming sickness benefit unless problems like obesity , smoking , alcohol , drugs are tackled...all ifs and buts ??

You may say this in jest, but it's what Enoch Powell dared suggest 45 years ago and was lambasted for it

Throughout the various generations it is true that the old will have accumulated the most wealth.

They've had the most time to do so.

It is also true that ALL wealth accumulated by the old will ultimately be passed to younger generations. That's the inevitable result of this little thing called "death" that you may have heard of.....;)

Most strains of virus are drug resistant, and the ones that aren't quickly evolve to be so. Which is why we still don't have a cure for the common cold.

Drug resistant strains of bacteria are a far bigger worry, as the overuse or improper use of antibiotics could set medicine back 100 years.
