Any tips for getting renewal from Admiral down?

Had my renewal through from Admiral but I understand that most people find a new quote cheaper. However when I try to get an online quote from Admiral, it recognises I am an existing policyholder and will not continue.

What I used to do when I only had one car was get a quote from Elephant (same company) and they would match that however Elephant refer multi-car quotes back to Admiral so this ploy is not working either.

I can start the quote process by entering something different on the first screen e.g. mispelling my name or using a different DOB but not sure whether they would reduce their quote based on me having entered a slightly different name? Anyone care to share success stories of how to get a multi-car renewal with Admiral reduced|?

Why not just go somewhere else? I tend to just rotate insurers these days because they all play games these days. You might also want to check Quidco for any cashback deals.

Don't bother playing with these people just walk away for at least a year ;)

Use the MSE guide to motor insurance.

If you find a better deal, see if they will match it, otherwise vote with your feet.

Also try 2 separate policies - admiral multi car is not neccessarily the cheapest way to insure 2 cars. Getting 2 cashbacks via the cashback sites may also be cheaper.

Thanks for the quick replies. I was hoping to save the hassle of completely changing insurer. I did try one other company but it took all evening to get the details right (had to call them in the end) for the two cars, two drivers, business use, and a couple of accidents; only to find the quote was dearer anyway.

I have just told Admiral to walk, got a renewal from them for £194, did all the usual search engines and got quotes for around £113.
Rang Admiral to try and pricematch and really got the impression they weren't bothered.

Entering your details into the search engine with want you want granted will take a while, about a couple of hours, but has got to be worth it to save some serious cash.

Admiral sometimes allow a discount if you keep the car on the road as opposed to the drive or garage, worth having a look.

Only if your car is "stealable". With cars like mine it's the other way round due to risk of minor damage.
    Can I help?

One thing i would flag is that (and its been discussed over the last couple of days on another thread) - if you are planning on paying your insurance off monthly with admiral, they effectively charge you extra on top of the interest rate.

The price they quote you as their headline figure has a 'one off payment' discount included, whereas the figure they use to calculate monthly payments from is considerably higher, ontowhich they add interest.

Posts 23, 25 and 26 summarise it here.

So they may appear the cheapest for your insurance, but if you pay monthly, other insurers who dont use this trick may be cheaper overall.

I've been with Elephant/Admiral for 4 years, not once have they matched the lower price I've told them.

I got mine online. Same insurer as my current one, Chaucer, showed as the cheapest - about £80 cheaper than my renewal quote from them. I phoned them, told them what it was and gave them the comparison site reference number. They then knocked another £5 off that.
