To be fair to Admiral, when I rang them up all angry and shouty over my renewal last year being hiked by £200, I managed to get them down by £300, just by threatening to leave. They claimed it had been a 'mistake'... like hell it was.

Try to get other quotes, particularly from elephant (they are a sister company so will price match) and phone them back.

See if changing where the car is stored or named drivers will help.

If you can, pay the whole year at once (cheaper) and with a debit card (saves you the £5 credit card charge).

I've been with them for years and have always managed to get them to beat the renewal quotes by £30-40 or so.

The problem with Elephant is that they don't do a multi-car policy; they refer me back to Admiral where I can't get a quote as I am an existing customer. I did however get two individual quotes which when added up were much less than my renewal.

What I did in the end was enter a different DOB on the Admiral site so that I could get a quote. Surprise, Surprise, £100 cheaper and with better cover. Then I ring up Admiral and get them to match their own quote (I say "otherwise I will not renew and start out again as a new customer") and change the DOB back to what it should be. It would save a lot of everyone's time if Admiral just gave loyal customers 'best price' for their renewal instead of trying to stitch them up all the time! For what it's worth I will be telling them this in the questionaire they send out with the renewal.
