Sycamores are very good at creating baby sycamores in the surrounding area and grow at an enormously fast rate. Definitely a good idea to keep them well under control - I can understand your neighbour's concern, if not his methods.

    I smell a rat here...

There are no leaves or seeds on my sycamore tree, nor has there been for well over a month now.

Found a sycamore seed in my house today.

Write him a note saying thanks for the seeds but you'd be sick of more.

I would write to him with the following words

    Hi,

I had originally booked in the garage removers and tree surgeons on X date. However because of your constant rudeness I have decided to cancel this until I recieve a full apology from yourself.

    Kind Regards,

    Y

-- However it could make things worse, but thats what I would do.

I'd be tempted to do the same but I think aggravating this kind of neighbour would just cause a whole lot of problems for the OP!
I agree, funny, indeed but they will find something else or turn it into a personal vendetta.

From reading this thread it appears that the neighbour spoke to OP's dad early last year, then knocked on OP's door before christmas and then maybe left a note and some seeds a couple of days ago.

To me (yes I know we're all different) that's not constant complaining (three times since April) and I can't read anywhere that the neighbour has been rude (if he has been rude this post would be completely different). Me, I'd just go round to the neighbour and say "don't worry mate it was all in hand anyway" and give him a rough timeline.
    It's someone else's fault.

A bag of seeds isn't rude?

So if a dog was crapping on my lawn it wouldn't be rude if I put the dog crap on a doorstep with a note?

The fact is - if the neighbour was polite enough to come round to the OPs house, enquire about the trees, they would have found out that the surgeon and garage remover was booked in and that the trees would soon be gone. But instead decided to leave a note and a bag of seeds (although not sure how the note was written but the bag of seeds makes it rude tbh).

Like I said we're all different, to me that's not rude.

To me puting unwanted rubbish that's not my problem through my door would be rude. I guess you must be very easygoing, I sort of envy that.

Now through the door I agree but I read it as the note was through the door but the bag was on the doorstep. And yes I am one of the very easygoing brigade, I think my blood pressure is almost permanently non existent ;)

No it was through the door too. Been confirmed by OP. I do envy you your calm, I am calm much of the time but get overheated now and again (though much less than I used to but it's hard work sometimes).

Fair enough, if it was through the door then I would have gone round to see him but still very calm and just see if we could reach a sensible solution. I used to deal with complaints years ago and it's surprising how many people walked out of the shop very calm after initially ranting and raving and still not getting what they wanted. My first answer was pretty much always "yes I agree with you" and it quite often stopped them in their tracks. It's probably old age too :)
