You asked about the mortgage. This really is one of the downsides of being on a DMP. Your arrangements to pay will show on your credit file which will mean that it will be very difficult to get a remortgage. You are really stuck with your current provider, although that doesn't mean that you can't move onto another product with the same provider- eg you could be offered a fixed rate deal. This also means that unless your mortgage is fully portable to another property you wont be able to move house.
The only way round this is to put the mortgage in your wifes name only. However, she would have to have a good enough income to cover the mortgage- your income could not be taken into account.
The best thing you can do is go and see an all of market mortgage broker- they are very knowledgable and will go through all the options with you. They don't charge until you actually get a mortgage through them- and some I believe don't charge at all. Good luck!
