get used to it mate, you now have to pay for your banking, they have been providing the service to you free for years whilst people like me have been paying for the privilidge.

Now you have to pay for it so what nothing in life comes for free, do yourself a favour and pay £1000 pound a month or over into the account then you wont get charges. Its irresponsible to have left school so early and end up being on so low pay.......

    how does that feel

that is in escence what you have been saying to everyone else

He's 26 years old, has his own business, his own house and 2 cars.

Irresponsible? Wish I'd been 'irresponsible' in that case too ;)
:heart2: Some call it stalking, I call it love :D :heart2:

That would actually be my fault

I was at his house all last week and as he's self employed, he didn't get any work done due to me wanting to go out.

People need to get their facts straight before opening their mouths ;)

Exactly, you hit the nail on the head;) People do need to get thier facts right, Graham_Devon please get yours right next time before you start slandering people. :p

I was merely pointing out the fact that he is saying something that could be placed on the other foot with him. Why does he moan so much then, surely if he owns his own successfull buisness then he will be getting more than 1k through his account each month meaning no charges. So basically he's come on here to have a moan about something that doesnt affect him at all. Whats the point in that.

If you read properly it has already effected me, my APR on my credit card went from 12.9% to 24.9% due to all this, and it was due to all this.

My other card, an egg card went through the roof interest wise.

All a couple of months, not even that after the OFT imposed a £12 charge as standard.

    Funny that.

I have just got myself a credit card with a flat rate 10.9% apr card on all transactions with no hidden fees for withdrawals and cash transfers with the abbey national. So if I can get a decent rate maybe you should move credit card companies for a better deal. You cannot blame APR on charges being claimed, you just dont have a competative credit card provider.

    Slander?

I assumed this was a discussion, hence not everyone agrees or has the same opinion. Clearly I got confused somewhere along the line.

Pinkfluff swetie, I think you are saying this to the wrong person.

Look back a couple of pages. I am open to constructive critiscism, but your friend, more or less, called me a liar, I was trying to share my experience for others to learn, and also to put the point across that the banks are at fault.

Graham_Devon, i am sorry your credit card apr has risen, as has mine, but I think that has more to do with the cc charges being lowered than the bank charges being reclaimed. There are still good deals out there at 0%. Halifax for example!!!

As i said get your facts right and don't put us down cos your having a hard time. If you have done as well for yourself as you say, smile a little more:D and don't be so uptight. You cannot blame us for defending ourselves!!!!

    Please don't patronise me, love.

He 'more or less called you a liar', not exactly slander then.

You got back from the park quick!

Back on topic - I recently received a letter from my bank stating that if I went overdrawn at all I would be charged. Previously they would let me off if I went slightly overdrawn or was only overdrawn for a short period of time. Wonder why I will now be charged if I go so much as a penny over?

How is it the banks fault when you agreed to their T&C's? It's their fault you didn't read them?

because if what they are asking of you is illigal in the first place then that particular condition under the T&Cs deosnt apply.

Not left to go to the park yet honey:p
    Sorry if I patronised you!!!

OK I hope I got my point across to some of you, that it is not always the customers fault.

I think we will just have to agree to disagree here pinkfluff, we are obviously not getting on!!!

There you go again!! You assume wrong. I do not have an overdraft as I don't want one. My bank charges for having an overdraft £120 a year for the privilege. Did you know that companies charge extra to pay with any other method than direct debit?? It doesn't make life simple at all. It is charges everywhere. You have accused people of being simple or stupid with money because they have charges. The majority of people in the country have been charged at sometime or another. But what we are saying is £39 for a first class letter to say 'you have gone over your limit' is extortion.

Trying to keep the topic going on calmly, I think the intention behind GD's post was would you rather pay £120 per year for the overdraft or try without one and pay £39 every time an item is bounced or you go over your limit? As seems likely, these charges will be drastically reduced in the future - the choice may then be would you pay £120 per year or risk having your account closed if you trasngress too often?

I have a £2000 overdraft. It costs me nothing. Only costs me interest if and when I dip into it (which I do regularly).

Now, my limit is high, I do realise that, not everyone is going to get that.

However, you can't really complain about charges, when there is a facility to combat the charges sitting there waiting, but you as you state 'dont want one'.

Well that would have stopped the charges. As for £120 who do you bank with? I think most major banks will give a free overdraft, but charge interest when your in it. Think mine is something like 14%, which is calculated daily on the amount I have used.

Also, flexiloans (or similar in your bank) are an attached account with a limit. An instant transfer avaliable, hence 'flexi'. You can dip in and pay back as you wish. It's like an extended overdraft.

I haven't accused anyone of being simple or stupid, but when you have thousands of pounds worth of charges, it indicates something, somewhere is wrong, and the only person that can get out of it is yourself.

Honestly though, how can you sit there complaining about charges, when the tools we all use are sitting there avaliable, but you personally do not want them.

As for DD, yes, I know, if I paid via DD for BT I would save £11 a year. But one automatic charge coming out of my account on the wrong day would mean a charge. This is why I have not been charged. I know whats avaliable and I click the submit button. You can call me high and mighty and give me a halo all you like, it's just my chosen method, and I'm simply not going to get charged by the bank doing it that way. So I don't see why I should be ridiculed, called whiter than white, be told I have no life because I spend 10 mins a week looking after my finances.
