The only reason why people who have a go at people reclaiming bank charges is that they think that banks do not like loosing all that money so will try to put charges on the running of bank accounts for everyone now. You just need a scapegoat and instead of blaming the banks for their actions, you blame the people for getting overdrawn in the first place and Martin& Co for helping them. The fact is that the OFT has already said that those high charges are unlawful so I am not sure why we even have to analyze how people get into debt at all?Reclaimed thanks to this site:

Personally, whether i agree with Martin or not is immaterial. Its something he has a great deal of passion about and i applaud him for it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Would it be an idea to get back on to the original thread topic, rather than bickering??!
The topic is an interesting one and everyone's got their opinion, which of course everone is entitled toThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If The Banks Do Start Charging For Accounts Then I Personally Think They Are Using The Fact We Have All Wised Up And Started Claiming Back Our Charges As An Excuse!!!
I Think They Have Just Been Waiting For An Excuse To Start Charging Everyone For Banking Servicies!!
And I Dont Think Anyone Has Any Right To Have A Go At Us Who Are Claiming Or At Martin For Publicising It!!
And For The People That Have Made Comments About Peoples Personal Situations (and `reckless Spending` - Which Is Out Of Order!!) I Think You Should Take Up A Hobby Instead Of Sitting On The Computer Bickering About Somthing You Have Absoloubltey No Control Over!! X0 -

I don't honestly know if martin was the first person show/tell people about this and how to reclaim but it is unfair to lambaste him when virtually other finance based websit I view and the papers have a 'Reclaim your fees' template section. There will be several others to 'blame' if it comes to it. BTW Martin, thanks for your site it has taught me a lot, not least how to reclaim my charges!THE LONG AND THE SLOW ROAD SEEM TO APPLY TO DEBTS AND DIETS... Absolutely this is not a new issue, people started successfully claiming their charges back ages ago, it just become more in the public domain.
Anyway when the 'sue somebody ring 0800 I fell over once and it may have been someone's fault' phenomenom happened, didn't everyone proclaim doom and gloom over this saying that insurance will go through the roof.
Bank charges that are disproportiate to the 'crime' are unlawful.
Please stop fretting about the banks they will always make money from you and I.

Its not "the Banks" that charge the £1.50 its private companies!! I do wish people would get their facts right.
At the risk of being contentious, this is not a charge I think is unfair. The charges, as has been said above, are made by private companies or were in some cases by other banks. If you decide to open an account with a bank, maybe for a high interest rate, but that bank doesn't have a big cash machine network, why shouldn't you pay to use facilities of other financial institutions?Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -
OK so banks can`t charge for people bouncing cheques or DD`s so we all go over our limit & bounce them. Many small companies go out of business & complete mahem breaks out.0
