no but the govt give you x amount at you choose how you spend it 50p per month will get you started on your way to £20

So lets hope the kids don't need to eat for 40 months then eh?
  • I don't believe i said you couldn't have a child because you have debts. The point I was making is that whether we want material luxuries or children then we should be able and prepared to pay for them ourselves.

Your implication was children were funded on credit cards or whatever like cars, tv's etc.

whatever your circumstance are you'll be lucky if you have enough to cover all the bills let alone anything else.

I have been looking into getting JSA as i'm being made redundant, it's £57 a week, that wouldn't cover my mortgage.
you have my sympathy but you always have choices. worst comes to worst sell your house and buy a smaller one
its a never ending arguement, if you cant find that £20 then as hard as i find it to believe the best of luck to you

What planet are you living on?! i already live a 2 bed mid terrace, not a 6 bed mansion. I can't just "buy somewhere smaller" as you so helpfully advise.

To get back on topic, say a charge is levied of £10 a month for a bank account. Now lets say, careful as I am, I actually only have £8 spare a month, so will face escalting bank charges every month. How many more people will a charge on a current account tip over the edge? If as has been stated a £20 rainy day fund is totally beyond a lot of people how on earth are they going to manage with a fee to have an account?

so you buy a 1bed flat that you all can live in 1 room and a sitting room to sleep in - you do what you have to do rather than get into debt and have no roof

Rubbish! I never mentioned credit cards. Plus you obviously have the mindset where luxury goods are funded via credit cards. I SAVE to buy a new TV. All I was saying was like everything else you have to be able to afford children.
