Problem with wireless adapter or access point

The new drivers don't seem to have helped as I am getting the same speeds in 2 different part of the room.
Can you give me a link to a wireless USB dongle so that I know what I am looking for?
I have inSSIDer and I am the only one showing as being on Channel 1. All the rest are on 4 or 11.0 -
Example of USB WiFi dongle mentioned earlier - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WIFI-150MBPS-WIRELESS-ADAPTOR-802-11-B-G-N-LAN-NETWORK-MINI-USB-DONGLE-ADAPTER-/180907070265?pt=UK_Computing_USB_Wi_Fi_Adapters_Dongles&hash=item2a1ee6d339
It just does exactly what your internal wi-fi card does. So you'd disable the internal card and use the usb one to connect to the wireless signal0 -
channel 4 can overlap with 1
routers with external aerials tend to work better.!!

I already have one of these that I bought to make the desktop wireless. Will it do the job?

If so, how do I disable the internal wireless adapter?0 -
worth trying
you could disable the internal one in device manager or possibly in the bios.
in theory the netbook internal card should be better, assuming the aerial lead pigtails are securely connected inside.!!

I have inserted it, but downloading the drivers failed. I am now downloading them from the Laptone site.0

Well my speeds are all over the place.
Not much difference with the USB wireless adaptor, then they were better, then they were back to the same. Switched back to the Atheros and was getting much the same speeds.
I took out the dongle for the wireless mouse and speeds increased initially. I even got a rogue 6Mbps instead of the 2Mbps, but just the once.
It looks like the wireless mouse is causing the slowness. The last test I did with it in was 0.2Mbps. Took it out and it bombed up to 2.9Mbps.
Not sure whether to leave the USB wireless adapter in so I can try it next time we go away in February, but it looks like I will definitely have to use a wired mouse instead.0 -
Try the driver I linked earlier, that was version 10.0.0.75 so newer than what is on Toshiba's site.0

How do I download it, is it the blue Download button at the top left or one of the blue links at the bottom and if so, which one?0

The blue on green download button at the bottom worked for me, the one just below the 4 links.0
