When I came back I refreshed the MSE usercp page, and got a 'pandadomain' message - fairy nuff, panda's my virus solution so that can be 'sensitive' at times. I get in the browser address bar and Followed by a load of links for suggested searches.

Unfortunately I don't know much about Panda anti-virus. So I can be limited help here.

Yes as you correctly guessed that isn't going to work :).

This though doesn't seem to be a "404 error". A 404 error means your computer has successfully contacted our servers and our servers have told your computer the page you are looking for does not exist. But your error suggests your computer was unable to talk to our servers at all.

This could potentially be a problem with your computer, your network setup, any software which might affect yoru network setup, your ISP's network, our network, or our servers. As you can see, there's plenty of scope for something to go wrong when trying to connect to a website. So occasional glitches when using the internet are probably to be expected. But in fact we have had very few reports of such glitches recently.

This suggests that - although we suffer occasional glitches like everyone else - maybe the problem is elsewhere on this occasion? Have you spoken to whoever supports your computer? Your ISP's tech support? Or tech support for Panda anti-virus as that showing unexpected errors?

It's a cloud based system, very light and (mostly) unintrusive. Weirdly, it rarely plays up at work (and I'd certainly be told if it did!), I guess my home browsing must be more 'dodgy' than what I do at work ...

OK, tonight I've noted the problem a little more carefully ...

On refreshing the UserCP page after a period of inactivity, the TAB shows "404 Not Found" and the page itself says: BOTHERATION! Now I've got back onto MSE via a link from my email, it's refreshed itself correctly so I can't tell you what it says!

Although I think it was "Not Found The requested URL /showthread.php was not found on this server." Following by something else, which may or may not have been along the lines of "Apache/2.2.16 (Debian) PHP/5.2.6-1+lenny16 with Suhosin-Patch Server at forums.moneysavingexpert.com Port 81" Definitely more than just the first bit.

Anyway, that's why I think of it as a 404 error ... because it says that's what it is on the tab.

If I refresh, I get the Panda error.

I support my own computer, most of the time. Can't face talking to Virgin (ISP), I'm afraid, it does my head in when I have to do so at work. Technical support for Panda: I'll need some time ...

But you see the difficulty? When I've got the problem, I can't easily post the details ... and when I haven't got a problem, I don't know what the problem was! :rotfl:

  • hI Savvy_Sue,

I have sent you a private message. As your computer setup and particular problems are quite specific. Discussing them here is not to the benefit of other users. So let's deal with it over private message. Thank you.
