Now then...do exercise or have your benefits cut ??

It's a very fair idea. If they can afford to get fat, or to damage their health by smoking and/or drinking then their benefits can be cut because they can afford to spend less on those things. Win-win.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

I dont want my local gym to get clogged up with ugly overweight obese benefits dependent MCdonalds addicts, thank you very much.
They cannot get off the sofa to make a cup of tea, fat chance they have of going over to the gym and running a mile on the treadmile.
Firstly you wouldn't see them clogging up your gym as they would get vouchers for when the gym isn't busy i.e. in the middle of the day.
Secondly the vouchers would be for local authority gyms.
Thirdly if you have ever seen obese or very over weight people use a gym properly to lose weight they don't run on the treadmill they walk. The maximum pace they start with is a slow walk and finally depending if they stick with it after about 3 months they can do a brisk walk. However most people who use gyms and aren't serious use it as a social club so never get beyond a slow walk.
Fourthly GPs already send people to gyms and slimming clubs in some areas regardless of whether they are working or not. One of my neighbours, who works and has heart disease due to smoking and eating fatty food was sent to a gym by the GP. He didn't like it so brought himself a bike, which I've seen him use, as our area is good for cyclists. He also doesn't smell of smoke any more but I know his diet still isn't brilliant.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

i really do hope your not calling me a leftie .. i would be most offendedOh yea, that's classic neave lefty line number 3:rotfl:
They are so neave they fall for this line it's hard to live on £54 pw.
Back in the real world, every day we get enquiries from tenants on benefits that once you tot them all up and add in the black market work means it's no wonder they afford the Ibiza hoildays etc.
One girl we know on benefits drives a Merc 4 matic, one of these;
Her long term BF with whom she has kids, owns a sucesful biz.
Again lefties just dont meet these types. I'd love to get at the psychology as to why this is.

I want people on benefits to hurt. Phys is the best way I think. Give them a life fitness key.
If the number of calories burned doesnt tie in with their benefits credit card expenditure, dock the benefits.
You could bill doleites 35 calories per ciggy, 100 calories per per of kappa trainees.0 -

Set a quota. Those walking have to do significantly more time wise than those matching my 13 kph jogging pace. Make them hurt.
Those on lifelong benefits never having paid into the system should be forced to do p90x or beach body insanity.
Only then can they look in the mirror and say "I earned it".0 -
By 'afford' you mean high carbo fat and sugar foods which aid obesity.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

whilst it might be fascist to make people do exercise, it does appear to me that everyone who lives north of watford has a BMI of 35 these days and anything that can be done about that is a good thing. of course this new "make fat people run" scheme appears only to apply to westminster council so it won't help much.0

It's not the fatties fault if they live in an obesogenic environment.
Poor areas are rife with junk food joints. Lack of cooking skills and lack of taste in selecting cheap but delicious food further compounds it.
What if such measures bring on anorexia or other eating disorders?#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

I don't know how they afford to over eat on benefits in the first place - I always lose weight when out of work as I cut back on amount of food due to lack of £0

always someone else's fault innit. mcdonalds made me eat their junk food with their brainwashing advertising. kfc came round and forced three zinger tower burgers down my throat.
i'm not sure there are any documented cases of exercise causing eating disorders.0
