Well I don't know about "north of Watford" specifically, but having travelled extensively around the country; one thing we have noticed over and over again - that generally ....... the more affluent the area, the fewer obese residents .......... the less affluent the area, the more obese residents there are.0 -
Good to know the Tories are the party or individual freedom and responsibility isn't it. Anyone remember the the compulsory exercises in Orwell's 1984? And to think I thought a Tory/Lib Dem coalition would be a step back from totalitarian govt

If you want a welfare state then you get a state that will look after you from cradle to grave, regardless of whether or not you want it to.
Anyone that votes for this should be treated like you would a National Socialist in the early 1930s.

Compulsory exercise is probably one of the more benevolent aspects of a totalitarian state. It's good for the mind and the body and often people really do need to be told what's good for them.
I think that eggs and berries are good for you. You should be forced in a measurable way to eat them because I say so. If you refuse then you will have all alternative means of sustenance removed.
Enjoy your new diet.0 -

Absolutely. I think the debate on whether their is a correlation between affluence and obesity is completely settled by now.
The question however is what about being from a less affluent area causes the increased likelihood of obesity. Often the cost of eating healthily is claimed to be it; personally I find this argument entirely unpersuasive. I think it is likely to be that obesity is a social stigma in wealthier 'sets' and that wealthier individuals are likely to be better informed about the risks of obesity and what to do to counter it.Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. Could it be that some communities are poor because they are fat and lazy, rather than the other way round?0 -

It has been decided that you eat fish and tomatoes. Fish and tomatoes are good for you.
Win-win.0 -
Make of this what you want. I :
am obese
Walk for an hour to an hour and a half pretty much every day - and definitely not at stroll speed. Most weeks I do at least one dance class a week.
not thick, IQ very much over the average.
Admittedly I don't work as hard as I used to, down to around 55 hours a week, positively slacking now.
earn around double the national average.
live north of the Watford Gap.
I'm not sure where I fit into some of the sweeping generalisations about fat people being poor, stupid and lazy. though obviously not being blessed with living in the South, I was probably doomed from birth:rotfl:0 -
In a way it shows just how soft and mollycoddled we've become in the UK - even people living in poverty can afford to be obese.
Currently 62% of adults are obese in the UK. The biology is simple - the solution is highly complex and yet to be found. Maybe when record numbers of people go through the pain of outliving their kids in the next 20 years we'll get the message.
I did notice that lots more cyclists were knocking around after the Olympics but these seem have reduced over the Winter. Maybe they'll be back in the Spring or maybe there will be some bargain cycles on Ebay.0 -

Ah but all that exercise doesn't count. If you want some of your money back then you need to lift the Government weights and run on the Government running machine.
Gentiles run. Those that don't run should be checked to ensure they fit the mandated gentile profiles.0 -
