They still get their benefits if they do the exercise recommended by their doctor. What is the problem with that?RevolvingDoor wrote: »I think it's an idiotic idea. What about the people who have worked for all their life and then maybe had to give up work and claim benefits because of an illness and have to take medication that makes them gain weight? Eg: some thyroid or mental health medications.
I thought this scheme was introduced to tackle the obesity epidemic, so why is it just obese people on benefits that are the focus? How does taking away benefits from poor people help the country become more healthy?0 -

Doing exercise shouldn't be a condition to receiving benefits to live on. If you can't understand that then I don't know how to explain it to you. We aren't living in a fascist society last time I checked. What happens to the people that have their benefits cut? More homeless people? Great idea.0 -

Why not?
I would have no objection in forcing claimants to follow doctors advise. The taxpayers ends up picking up the bill for obesity.0 -
During the festive season I caught an episode of 'Pushy & Proud - Junk Food Mums'.
Basically a TV show featuring families that, whilst lacking brain cells, weren't sufficiently dysfunctional to warrant a Jeremy Kyle appearance. One couple didn't cook any food whatsoever and fed their three offspring and themselves only takeaway food (McD's being the main outlet of choice).
Despite leaving school with no qualifications, never having worked, zero research and an elevated BMI it was the mother's considered opinion that this was in no way an unhealthy approach to nutrition.
What surprised me was that the family was maintained at the taxpayer's pleasure. Say the family ate a healthy breakfast of Cheerios or Sugar Puffs and ate regular McD's only twice a day that's 6 x Happy Meals and 4 x Extra Value Meals - that's over £200/ week. I just can't see how this can be possible on benefits.
According to all the lefties in discussion time here, these people do not really exist outside the columns of the DM. Everyday I deal with such people but according to those in DT I imagine it all.0 -
why would people not do the excercise .. if its a condition of your benefit that you partake in 1-6 hours excercise a week and you refuse then firstly i would have to ask why and secondly you knew it was a condition so its your own fault!RevolvingDoor wrote: »Doing exercise shouldn't be a condition to receiving benefits to live on. people who are obese are more at risk of other illnesses/ medical conditions and become a burden on an already stretched resource
put it this way if your employment contract siad you should dress smartly , shave regularly and not dye your hair radical colours , to keep your job and get paid you need to comply

.
LBC radio had a GP call in to say this was whats long been needed as he gets tired telling very large workless people that all / most of ther health issues could be addressed with weight loss and excercise.
I've met such folk myself seeking sympathy for thier sore joints and foot fungus, that never once consider actually dealing with the underlying issue - eating too much and never moving.0 -

Benefits are "free" money that just appears by magic. Why should anybody have to do anything to get it.
It's a different world out there in "social security land".0
