The Building Regs are being changed from April to allow homeowners to carry out 'less risky' electrical work such as installing kitchen and garden electrical sockets and security lighting.

  • I think it says that householders I.e. people not qualified as electricians, can do these tasks anyway but would have needed council approval and they won't now need that. I didn't know council approval was required.

Yes, since around 2005 fitting sockets in kitchens and gardens should either be carried out and signed off by a qualified electrician or notified to the council's building control for inspection and sign off. Failure to do so is a criminal offence.

Although how they can prove when it was installed I'm not sure...

Which all goes to show that the unintended consequence of having too many laws is an increase in crime.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

Lots of people will have made it a new year resolution to fix or improve their home’s electrics, but they are often put off by the bureaucratic costs.

I cant see why they are allowing you to install an outdoor socket when they wont let you do anything in bathrooms, to be honest they are both as dangerous locations as each other, both can contain water for starters.
How many sockets will we see installed outdoors with no rcd protection on them ?
This government is so f ecking stupid

Me neither. I also put a double socket in the bathroom airing cupboard for hair clippers, tongs etc. All highly illegal of course and almost certain to kill me :)
