New aerial

I have been reading various posts and am seeking some advice on the following.

I built a house several years ago but never got an aerial installed as I have sky in the room we normally use. I have 4 bedrooms and 3 living rooms which have been cabled with aerial coax cable the only thing is the downstairs has no connection with the rooms upstairs. I want to put a loft aerial in as I know houses around me have this operational with very good reception.

Do I need a loft aerial, 6 way amp in the loft connecting the 4 bedrooms, a cable going downstairs to a 4 way amp and the 3 rooms downstairs connecting into this?

Also can the amps wire into a light socket?

I don't want to pay a small fortune to get this done as I know I can do it myself less than half the cost.

  • Hi,

You could just use one of these tv aerial amplifiers, they have 6 outputs, then a higher powered output that can be used with a splitter for the downstairs points...Saves buying and powering two amplifiers.

All you need then is a 3 way splitter. If you are going to be splitting the signal inside then one of the Triax 3 way TV aerial splitters is perfect
You can wire them into the light fittings, but it has to be correct, otherwise you will only get a TV signal when your lights are switched on...
  • Just bought a 48 element high gain digital aerial which is suitable for most signal areas and loft installation.

I have ordered a 6 + 1 way amp to connect my upstairs rooms and have a full output for the rooms downstairs.

I have been thing as I have sky in the sunroom downstairs, if I run a coax cable from the RF2 on the sky hd box up into the loft and connect it to the 6 + 1 way amp will I be able to get sky in the rooms? If I connect the magic eye into my bedroom I will be able to operate the sky channels??

    Would this be correct?

There's no such thing as a "Digital Aerial". That's marketing hype designed to fool you into buying fancy crap.

A Vision V10-040 log-periodic might well do everything you want at a lower cost. Do your research.

Yes to your question but, again, do your research. You need a SkyLink compatible amplifier if you want to use the remote control and "magic eye".
  • Ok.

Get the point about the aerials.

    How is this amplifier http://www.toy-kingdom.co.uk/Philex-SLx-Distribution-Amplifier-27823R/dp/B001SR05FY?traffic_src=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle

It says it will distribute digital tv and satalite signals??

How do you do this then ? I thought this can't be done.
I want to add an amp the same as Kurtis, but have left it for ages as I dont know how to easily get power into the loft.
  • ok I have installed my new aerial in the loft and have aligned it the same way as my neighbours.

I can get various channels itv 2 plus 1, food channel, Viva, Sky News and more.

I cant get BBC1, 2, ITV 1, Channel 4 or Channel 5 and a lot of other channels??

Do i need to be precise when aligning the aerial? should I invest in a signal finder?
  • Thanks Kurtis.

Will you buy this off me when I use it once??

As well as direction have you got the aerial elements on the same plane as your neighbours (horizontal or vertical) as that is fairly critical
  • Ok.

    What about this

Philex tv signal finder - do a google search.

    Is this any good?
  • Why is it not good???
