I was just beginning to think unplugging phone had worked when my connection dropped out again and I had to walk closer to my hub, guess my next thing is to move hub one room closer and see if my printer and PC still work where they are.0

Did you actually unplug the base station from the mains (as opposed to unplugging it from the phone line)? No free lunch, and no free laptop

No I will unplug from mains immediately and try agaIN0

Phone unplugged from mains and hub, using laptop in lounge suddenly connection dropped out, I tried to open a new page on internet explorer it was trying but could not then suddenly everything was back working again so interference was for about 20 - 30 seconds any ideas why it keeps dropping out0

Several posts ago it was suggested you download and run inSSIDer.
It was also suggested that you post your router line statistics.
As a minimum could you run a speed test.
Have you got your router plugged into the master socket?
You have to provide more info to help the folks to give you more help. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Ok inssider installed but not sure what I am supposed to do with it, just done a broadband speedchecker which said 2.69Mb/s
Not sure what you mean by post router line statistics, where do I find this information please0 -
Look at the info in post #12 - That's how to get line stats.
inSSIDer will look something like this (cannot post image as a new user):
metageek.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/new-inSSIDer-screenshot-for-1-6-11-doc.png
In this case, if your SSID is on channel 1, as Key Design websites is, with other signals in the same range BOM, JLB but the range 9-13 (where GALLATIN is) is free, then re-tune your router to channel 11.
To me, this all sounds like it's not really BT's problem. Frustrating, perhaps, but the ISP's remit is to only supply broadband to the master socket, which they are doing. If you can get internet on your desktop but not your laptop - not their problem. They cannot be responsible for routers being used in extension sockets/stored in a cupboard, neighbours on the same WLAN channel, thick walls, large houses etc. Personally, I always ethernet everything in my house that I am able. People think that WLAN is an 'upgrade' - it's not. It's just another method of home networking, sacrificing some of the advantages that ethernet has (stronger signal, no dropouts, faster speeds) for increased device portability.Sorry, but the customer is not always right. Often, you're very very wrong.0 -
This issue has nothing to do with your line speed. 2.7Mbps is not fast, but it's perfectly adequate for general usage.
Do the InSSIDer test to see what else is running, and on what channels. If there's clash, we can tell you how to change channels.
Have you retested using ethernet to see if the issue goes away?No free lunch, and no free laptop

OP you have received a lot of help and links and info so far.
My advice - read, inwardly digest and act upon it, don't ignore it and phone BT up again. It is not a BT problem! The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Thank you all for help will take action as per advice asap but sadly my 83 year old mother rushed to hospital tonight so wifi is least of my problems for a while.
Many thanks everyone hopefully with what you have given me I will get it sorted.0
