Sky Remote as Universal

Hello, is it possible to program an old sky rev8 remote to work as a universal tv remote if the tv itself is not connected to a sky box or magic eye? Have tried about two dozen different codes and nothing seems to work then it dawned on me that maybe its because tv is currently hooked up to a freeview hd box with no sky…
