Sky Remote as Universal

Hello, is it possible to program an old sky rev8 remote to work as a universal tv remote if the tv itself is not connected to a sky box or magic eye?

Have tried about two dozen different codes and nothing seems to work then it dawned on me that maybe its because tv is currently hooked up to a freeview hd box with no sky connection at all.

Quite possible, the amount of control you get will vary from TV to TV.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Rigged it up there with a length of old co-ax via rf out and still getting the same results, about 8 codes will give me a single flash after they're entered and when I try blink-back it just blinks the last code I entered back at me.....looks like i'm stuck with the old remote which is on its last legs.

Coax? What on earth are you on about?

You just program the remote with the code for your TV. It requires no physical connection to the TV.

It blinks back the last code programmed because you haven't input a new code.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    As per Heinz comments.
The remote works with the TV, you just have not got the correct code yet. It will NOT control your Freeview box.
Normally the freeview box remotes can be programmed to control basic TV functions ( assuming its a half decent make like Humax).

  • What make and model of TV?
  • If the remote previously worked the Tv then as indicated it should again.
Lots of TVs particularly cheaper internet and supermarket models seem to be hit or miss. I also believe TVs with buit in DVD players are often no goes.

I was checking out if remote would control volume and standby prior to hooking it up via co-ax and rf out to a tv in the bedroom [though went down the wireless sender route instead].......its a cheapo tv from currys...logik and i've since read elsewhere that no sky code exists for my particular model...L19DVDB19....though i've a Matsui tv in another room with built in dvd and sky remote operates it okay.

There's a code for this TV combo in the Sky+HD Rev 8 remote, as listed in the SatCure Code Book. If you have some other revision Sky remote then you're probably out of luck.
