If he paid £850 a month and that was 25% then he would be on £3400 a month...
By that reckoning, it would be £510 for 10 -
I asked here because he says that csa will take into consideration overpayment over the years which I have no idea as I don't know earnings and rightly do why should i?! I am only trying to do what is right
If you have NEVER involved the CSA, then it would be a new case, the case is dated from the date they 1st contact him, so if you phoned tomorrow, then about 2 weeks time would be the start date, he has timescales to send in the info required etc, if he fails they will do a search and find his employment history and get the info direct from them, this will already of created "arrears" meaning he will owe money to the CSA on your behalf.
It has NO bearing on what he has or hasn't paid in the past, they are only interested in the date you contact them...! He could of paid you £2000 a month for the last 10 years, it makes no difference at all...! By the same thinking, if he had paid £20 you couldn't get more because he hasn't paid enough...
Send him the link to this thread... Tell him to post and read the horror stories of dealing with the CSA, and then tell him what you think is fair on his income...
And after that, try to discuss it like adults, if he won't then open a claim... You have nothing to lose if he stops paying you anyway...

I may be on a wild card here but........
Since the children are older (2 of them) just how long has this been going on?
5 years? 10?
10 years ago, £850 a month wasn't far off an average wage circa £16k a year. Thats a pretty hefty sum of CM by anyone's standards.
Am willing to bet ClearingOut doesn't get much more than that now to bring up her children single-handed. :heart2:
Do the children, or have they, have/had a good relationship with their father? And being aware that Child Support isn't forever.........Have you made arrangements to increase your own earning power?
10 years ago....was he netting 3k a month then?
There's no black or white answer here but i'm afraid it does smack of *i want more*:oAutism Mum Survival Kit: Duct tape, Polyfilla, WD40, Batteries (lots of),various chargers, vats of coffee, bacon & wine.

Trolling? What is that? He tells me net is 3000 and therefore I believe 280 to be not enough. I'm completely new to this and dont really understand all the lettering eg op dutr etc? I don't mind if it is less or more I just want it to be up front. I asked here because he says that csa will take into consideration overpayment over the years which I have no idea as I don't know earnings and rightly do why should i?! Trolling is when somebody posts false stories to gain reaction.
There are two types of not enough, physically not enough, eg he was giving you say £10 per week, or if say he was on £1000 per week net but giving you £100 per week, it would not be enough by the csa calculations but I'm sure many would feel that is an adequate amount to recieve.0 -
How old is your youngest, if they are in their teens and the maintenance payments will stop fairly soon anyway, is it worth the hassle of going through the CSA now. Also does your ex have any children (his own or current partner's) as this will affect claim too.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

Thank you so much for all the replies, a great help! I wanted to avoid csa as it has always worked well until now!! I have trusted him in what he has paid for kids and has never missed a payment. He just doesn't get that it reduces by a percentage and not by a third each time. He tells me now that his net take home is 3k0

As he has told you his (healthy) net income, why not run it through the online csa calc to get a rough figure, take screen shots of it and show him what the csa would deduct. You can then work out a mutually agreeable figure from there.0 -

I have exhausted all avenues with him. He is unreasonable and would rather go to csa. I have a very good idea of his earnings. So csa it is.0 -
If he was earning 60k pa 10 years ago, and his job hasn't changed then go through the CSA cos he is earning a hell of a lot more than £3000 a month if he is still employed by the same company...!!!0
