Now what? Family trouble threatening me and my son!

No, my university doesn't have that.
If I want to move out, where do I start? I found a few places in Northampton to rent, do I call and ask for viewings, then make claim for HB? Should I call HB and Student Finance first to check what I'm entitled to and it's as I think, as Student Finance should go up if I'm living away?
Anyway, this is what it should cost- around £500 pm rent, £100-120 bills per month, and £50 pw food? Am I roughly accurate?
As you're assessed as an independent student, your finance won't change. Don't forget that lots of your student finance package will affect means tested benefits.0 -
I'd put in a claim with the CSA anyway. If I understand correctly, you'll get £5/wk from his wages even if he's on minimum wage, and of course you'll start to get more than that if he ever gets a better job. What have you got to lose?Mortgage when started: £330,995

I'm local to the area
For a one bed flat you would get around £391 HB and renting a flat would be £450ish - you would need to top up the rest yourself
I do agree with others though I'd say the best option would be getting away from that house]0 -
And yes you apply for HB after you move in - but potentially you'd be looking at 1st months rent and deposit and potentially credit checking fees. But you would get the first months rent backdated]0

LannieDuck- I put in a claim a few months after my son was born, it came back with numbers in the triple-figure region, but was cleared to zero as he claimed he had no income at all. I haven't had any letters from CSA since then and his sister tried to report me for child abuse (dysfunctional family to dysfunctional family!) after I made the claim. Needless to say, there wasn't anything on him!Up and onwards to the future!

Gosh what a horrid situation
. I can't really understand it. You felt strongly that Bob should be on the birth certificate and/or the child should have its father recognised, sister and mother obviously felt differently. You tried to argue your case and help Bob. It sounds like he's still not on the birth certificate but why are your sister and mother so upset? Is it because you suggested taking them to court? I can understand them being upset, but slapping you and calling you all manner of names? This does not sound right at all and to be honest , does not sound a particularly great environment for your son
Clearly if you really can't talk to your sister and find out what's going on/why they are so upset then moving out may be the best option. Perhaps a bit of space between all parties would help?

Thanks, I don't know, my intention was for it to be discussed more, it's not like I said "hey, let's kidnap the baby" or actually DID anything beyond suggesting they talk! It's ridiculous- my mother comes in to say goodnight to my son, kisses him, blanks me and leaves without so much as a 'g'night'. Then goes and holds my sisters baby all day. I think she forgot that THAT baby has a father, she ISN'T its parent, there is ANOTHER child in the house too and oh, I'm her daughter.
I'm unsure about moving though- I can find a place, no problem, but come July, nobody I know will be in Northampton and it will literally be just me and a baby. But it's £500 for train fare if I were to commute and unless I definately get HB, I can't afford to stay in my home town in a new home AND travel. Any solutions to this? I don't know how to transport all my things too- a large roomful- and £300 for moving vans is out of my budget?Up and onwards to the future!

The OP should have been assessed as an independent student already, because she has a child.
In that case, her student finance won't increase, as Dunroamin has already said.
Please check this for yourself, OP, as you seem quite naive where money is concerned and overestimating your budget isn't a wise move.0 -
Also check the HB situation, and speak to your uni, they may be able to point you in the right direction.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0
