hi there,i have been booked with coverlook studios and i went there a week ago and i had a womderful time. there are so professional and i had the best time ever, my son's pic was amazing and i bought a few. just to say thank you to all the staff there.. was great to be your winner..
cheersMy 16 year old daughter was contacted 2 days ago by a company called Coverlook Studios. They told her that she had won a competition she had entered, and that she had won a makeover and hair styling worth £500. She needed me (as she is under 18) to agree to this.
I spoke to the chap, a James Lo, who informed me that she had won this competition via the internet (my daughter is a little vague about remembering entering this particular competition!). There are no hidden costs. She would need to book to come up to an address in Oxford Circus for her treatments, she would have a professional photographer take her picture, and that she would get a photo on a CD-rom as a memento (sp?) of the day, with an option to buy other pictures at a 40% discount.
As her family, we were also invited to have the various treatments.
They requested that we pay a refundable £30 deposit to secure our booking.
I wouldn't touch this with a barge pole, but she is really excited.
Has anyone else had experience of this company - all sounds fishy to me!!

Hi to anyone who's been in touch with Coverlook, don't be fooled into winning the competition thats what i did! Yes its a good day and the photos are excellent but very very expensive, i didnt even get a print i got 4 photos placed onto a disc in lieu of my deposit of £90 which was for me and 2 other guests. for the full set of Photos they take of you and your guest/s they could charge upto anything in the region of £3000, infact because i said no to that price they rearranged a price of £400 for 10 photos, of course once a gain i said no which left me with 4 on a disc, may seem cheesy but at least i can get them developed and enlarged alot cheaper than Coverlook wanted to charge me. BEWARE DON'T BE FOOLED!!!!!!!!0

I'm not surprised that Coverlook charge alot for the photos have you seen how many work in that one so called studio???? Iwent there thinking i'd won a competition oh silly me im sure they say that to everyone, yes the photos are brilliant but very expensive, i was quoted £3000 for 37 of me and my 2 guests, i refused to pay that so they then quoted me £400 for 10 yet again i refused so then they gave me 4 photos on a disc, didnt get a print like they said i would but at least i can go elsewhere and develop and enlarge them alot cheaper than Coverlook wanted to charge me. By the way dont think the disc was free either it was in lieu of my £90 deposit! *BE VERY WARY DONT THINK YES IVE WON SOMETHING SO VERY COOL AS ITS NOT THAT COOL ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN.*0

Well I received a phone call from them aswell telling me i've won. I do remember actually entering competitions for makeovers. The woman explained everything to me and then she said i have to make a £30 deposit. I already did that. Well my boyfriend paid for that. I also said I am not bringing a guest to receive the same treatments, but obviously i am taking my boyfriend just to give me company. I wasn't actually planning to buy any other photos because firstly i myself don't have any money and I already told my boyfriend we are not going to buy any other photo. I'm suposed to be goin on Thursday. They already took the deposit. Now i can only say what happens after i go.0

Good for you for not wanting to buy the photos, only thing is when you see them you will want to, it is quite an enjoyable day however, have fun and remember the drink they provide is free so have as many as you like:beer:0 -
I'm afraid I fell for this. I received a phone call advising me that I had won a comp - of course I enter so many comps that I couldn't remember whether or not I had entered. I was told that I won second prize. I asked what that included and was told I would get the makeover, photoshoot, 1 photo print and 20 photos on a disk that I could print off at my own pleasure. I asked if I could take along my husband and 2 children and they said yes. I was told that I could have photos of us as a family on the disk. I agreed to pay a deposit of £60 (£30 for me and £30 for dh) which would be refunded to me on the day. A few days later I received the confirmation letter but there were no details of the 1 photo print and the 20 photos on a disk so I phoned them and they assured me that I would definitely get these. I had arranged to go on a Sunday which would take about 4 hours in all travelling. On the Friday before I decided to phone up to see if dh and children needed to take a change of clothes. At the same time I thought I would clarify once more that I would get these free photos but this time was told that I would not get these as I had only won second prize and the free photos were not stated in the letter I had received. When I asked for my money back they refused to refund me stating that it was only refundable on the day after I turn up (? minutes early) with the prize letter. I tried arguing and then I tried to compromise and asked for £30 back but I got nowhere.
I should have been weary about paying a deposit - as stated previously in another thread - you should not have to pay for a prize refundable or not. I had previously won a prize previously which required a deposit and I got it back on the day so I didn't think there would be a problem.
I'm not happy about losing £60. I had contacted Trading Standards and thought about taking them to Court but I haven't got the time nor money and I have more important things on my mind at the moment.
Just a note to everyone - BE CAREFUL!£2008 for 2008 member 1200 -
To be honest, I think this is pretty standard practice - they get you in, make you look fab and then try adn sell you all the lovely photos of yourself. If you can stay strong and take whatever they give you for free without spending any more, then you have a lovely day and a makeover. If you can't, you will feel ripped off because the photos they take probably will be great and you will want them, but the prices are high.
Unfortuantely, that's the way the industry works it seems, so just know your limits if you are offered one of these.0 -
Hey evri1. I went yestrday to the coverlook thing and to be honest I thought it was alright. Although the wait waz really long. My appointment was for 12:45 n i didn't get my make-up done till 2pm, There were alot of other people ther. The make-up artist was really friendly, and the photographer was helpful to. I was happy with the results....also the fact is I'm quite photogenic anyways so thats why i didn't take too long when they were taking my photo. I loved every single picture bt what i did was break it down 2 one picture of each outfit then i chose 1 picture which i really loved - free copy and my boyfriend wanted another picture aswell and like an idiot he bought it. Cost about £75- they took the £30 deposit and just charged us £45 more. Other than that it was great, apart 4rm that long wait. I would say if u get a fone call 4rm them, do go, bt b prepared 2 have a long wait, and i would say go in without ur credit card and money if u dnt wna spend 2 much money.0

I went to the Coverlook studios yesterday after being told I had one 2nd prize. Firstly I know now that I had not as everyone was given this line. Secondly I waited almost 2 hours before I was seen. It was not an enjoyable experience at all as I was ignored whilst waiting and the reception was so full of people waiting there turn that there were not enough seats. My hair was lovely and makeup I could have done better but this is done in front of the jam packed reception so everybody including the passing public are watching you.
I was told to take 4 changes but was told that we only had time for 2, the photo's were not bad at all but were taken in front of lots of other people that are waiting - I would have injoyed the experience more if it was private and more attention was given to me.
When shown the photo's I was shocked to find that you don't get any printed - they are all put on a disk and you have to go and pay else where to get them printed. They are £60 each!!!!
I was told on the phone by the sales guy that called and told me I'd one that they would be 20-30 pounds each. If I had known they would be so pricey I would not have gone.
When the sales lad realised he was not going to get a big sale out of me he became very rude.
I would not recommend this to anyone - I have been to an Olan Mills and it was half the price and a much nicer experience.0
