Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 2nd January 2013 - New Years Day. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all and happy new year. Didn't make it out of bed yesterday due to horrid sickness bug. Won't go into details but lost 3lbs in 3 hrs! This year I am going to be positive and much more OS. I think, due to the amount I have on my plate at the moment, that my common sense has gone out of the window. I have officially given the wooliness notice to move on.

Today I have put the BM on and for tea we will have Thai turkey curry from the freezer. Still feeling wobbly, so will spend the day planning the forthcoming week.

Jools, I don't know what to say. I am in awe of you and how you're coping. Love to you and your family. X

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

i'm up, bathed and dressed already  wm and dw have been on. both need emptying. everything was tidy before i went to bed last night. its a bit odd having nothing to do :o:rotfl: just sat enjoying the peace before the boys awaken (prob wont be for a couple of hrs yet)

plans for today is to magic something up for dinner with whatever is in the cupboard. find more rubbish to throw out... i need to have a major sort out of my sock drawer. for some reason i dont like throwing socks out :o on last count there were just over 70 pairs :rotfl: kitchen drawers need doing too.

trip to b&q didnt happen yesterday. hubby suggested a trip to town. ds had some christmas money left and there is a train he is after so thought he would be able to get in a toy shop but no such luck. but i got a pair of boots in the sale :D i needed a new pair but never have much luck when i am looking for myself.

flutterby and elcela - hope the ops go ok.
monnagran - hope you feel better soon. is the rev on the mend now?
esmf - hope you feel better. that bug is horrid. luckily i only caught the end of it but the baby had it the worst :(

hugs to anyone who wants/needs one :)

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Dark damp and miserable here this morning.

DH up and off to work shortly. Boys still in their pits fast asleep, will wake them before I leave for work. Work will be busy today as it's the start of the month - but only working until lunchtime so won't be too bad.

Dinner last night was ham, chips and beans for the menfolk, and I had ham and salad - will continue to use up the LO's for meals as don't want to throw food away, tonight we will be having a pasta dish with bacon and creme fraiche, there's plenty of biscuits, chocs etc for desserts, also we haven't touched my 2 HM xmas puds and before we left were given another yesterday - so desserts are sorted for the time being.

Have asked the boys to take the decs and tree down whilst I'm at work - we can then get all the boxes put back in the loft - I love xmas but want to get back to normality now, and the house seems so cluttered.

Hoping today that my telephone landline and internet connection is going to be sorted as fingers crossed as today at 5pm is the estimated time that it will be! Will have to wait and see.

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

    Morning all,

Back to work today :( so back to reality with a bump for me, twas difficult getting up this morning. I have really enjpyed this holiday, and have relaxed completly, probably too much :rotfl:

Took the xmas tree and decs down yesterday, I do like them up, but it looks much cleaner and tidier with them down.

Mum came out of hospital yesterday, scans and blood tests all clear :T she has arthiritis of the spine and some nerve damage, which is causing the pain, but thank goodness nothing sinister.

Will ask dd to shove a wash on, and peel some spuds for dinner, and tidy through, so not as much to do tonight. Need to get back into healthy eating too, put far too much on over xmas.

Flutterby, good luck today hun xxxx

    Jools, xxxx

    Have good days all xxxx
  • Morning everyone. Back to work today for me too. Really not looking forward to it - I don't hate my job, but I don't like going back after some time off because I will be swamped with emails etc. I'm actually off again tomorrow, because I have to work on Saturday. Boooo!
My mum comes back from Kent tonight, so i'll be off up to the airport to pick her up around 10pm.
Trying to eat healthier now. I'm craving a salad! I really want to lose a bit of weight. My massive pile of christmas chocolates is hopefully going to last me a good few months!
Hope everyone has a good day, and flutterby - hope your op goes ok.
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j

  • Good morning all,
Seems quite a nice morning at the moment, everything is very still.
esmf73, hope you feel better soon. Such alot of that bug going around.
Wm is on. I don't have too much in the way of ironing so i will get that done and put away.
Not much planned for today. Hubby will be in bed as he has work tonight. I will probably take jasper for a long walk. It tires him out and is great exercise for me.
Tea tonight is gammon with potatoes and salad.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

  • Morning everyone!

Sorry to those back at work today - this getting up early and having to do things is a bit of a shock to the system! Lucky for me, school isn't back in until Monday, but I do have a stack of marking to work my way through. Aiming to do at least one class before lunch today, so got up at the same time as kicking the boyfriend out of bed to go to work.... I definitely didn't tell him I was going back to sleep at all ;)

Got a teeny shop to do today, been left a list on the fridge, so sadly won't be the NSD I hoped, but should be a productive one at least :)

Hope everyone has a good day x
