Orange Warranty - How Good Is It?

Okay, some background info:
I upgraded to a Galaxy S2 on a two year contract in around April/May of 2012.
I don't have any Orange Care.
My phone is in almost perfect condition as it's always been in its case, never dropped, etc etc.
Yesterday my phone developed a weird fault (thinks it's charging when it's not plugged, says voltage is too high because of it, doesn't want to turn back on until I've plugged it in etc) and after doing quite a bit of Googling it appears that the USB connector may be a bit fried.
Anyway, I want to take it to Orange, but I'm just wondering what their warranty coverage is like. Am I likely to get a hassle with it?
Also, this has made me wonder what my overall coverage is like. Because I have 18 months left on my contract, am I covered for all of that time? I know Orange Care is used to accidents etc which I'm not worried about, but if the hardware just breaks they surely have to cover me for the length of my contract?
I know, I should have looked into this before going on the contract, but I've never had a phone break before so it just didn't cross my mind.
Any info on what to expect when I take it to the store, how long I'm covered for with faults that I'm not responsible for, etc, would be appreciated!

The G2 has a 2 year warranty with Samsung, you could take it to Orange or go to Samsung.
Faults on the USB connectors are almost allows related to user damage, using too much force to push the connector in or putting in/taking out at an angle and causing damage. Will it be covered hard to say until they take a look inside it's not clear if it will be internally damaged.0 -
The warranty is provided by the manufacturer.
Orange have responsibilities too under the SOGA, but unless you pay for 'Orange care', after 6 months they will find every excuse for fobbing you off because the onus lies on the customer to prove that it's manufacturer's fault.
