As it's been horribly snowy and treacherously icy, my OH didn't risk sorting the shed out, but has removed, emptied and got shot of a lot of the boxes on the landing! Umpteen bags for cs, bags of card to take to the allotment to burn off the weeds and I have an almost clear hallway :D It really looks light up there now!

I just wish that work had "snow days" like schools and colleges do, I really don't want to have to slipslide all the way to work tomorrow, it frightens me!
Wow, progress indeed, was it the nagging or the leading by example that did it?
For the shed, sounds like an ideal time to take a photo of contents and pore over it on the computer, decide what can be coinsolidated, where you need a few more hooks etc , may even lead to a few decisions about disposals - I tend to think that if OH disappears out there he will get distracted (because I do)

I am intrigued what you do with cards/burning?

Re slipping; shoes with crepey soles stick to snow and are good to walk on it, things with tracks and ridges such as wellies can compact underneath and form a ski, not good, as I learnt when I broke my arm, so dont be tempted to wear wellies

Byatt, Polo is a brilliant name, I knew a cat Marco who was named that because he was an explorer

Jayne - if you need permission to give up on the tangled wool, you can have permission to chop it into short lengths and hang it in the garden in Spring to be apprecaited by nesting birds

decko - I know what you mean about going back, you are now seeing it through someone else's eyes, hard but necessary

I may try and sell my wedding dress but I have to say it quietly so I won't be upset. It is a beautiful dress and someone else could get a lot of pleasure and joy from it.

:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

    ok, I won't tell
Do any wedding dress makers make up a swatch pack with all the fabric and a button, pearl etc in, so the bride can keep that and let the dress go? If not they should!
You won't forget your wedding ww

Funnily enough I was thinking about the dress I got married in recently. Mine was not a wedding dress but an inexpensive evening dress I already owned. It's looking worse for wear and I have the husband who I love so do I need the dress I don't love? Dh, btw is totally against getting rid of it (and it would be recycliing not for rewear by anybody) and I am not willing to push him on the point.
  • Hey guys :)

I've been neglecting the thread due to my exam which was yesterday. Trying to recover both mentally and physically (my hand really hurts!) and once done so will be cracking on with more tidying. I already have a load of baby items to put on my work's intranet site.

We've also made the decision to sell our lovely inherited stagg minstrel dining table, chairs and sideboard. Really lovely pieces of furniture but they're too big for the room which means they've just been used as dumping grounds. Hoping to sell them on so we can get some smaller pieces for the space. Once they've gone I'm going to be moving furniture around to make more space in the house, which hopefully will encourage me to declutter.

On the subject of wedding dresses - I bought a special box to put mine in which is now hidden in a wardrobe. My dress was small so thankfully doesn't take up much room. I couldn't bear to part with it, it's a beautiful dress and besides, I have a daughter who 'might' want it someday. No pressure on my almost-2 year old, of course. :)
"Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."

I seem to have lost my mojo this morning. I have been busy though as my delivery from Ike@ arrived so have strongly encouraged my kids to de-clutter. Hopefully they will be motivated. I have walked round to the bin twice instead of leaving stuff inside so I guess that is positive.

I have allowed myself a drawer for useful bits'n pieces which I sorted today. I have a bag of christmas Cracker oddments from years and years. What to do with these bits? Charity shop?

Eb@y seems to be going reasonably as there are some of the kid's designer clothes (birthday presents) and the two old hutches. That will free up space in the garage and make the garden a little less cluttered.

This afternoon I will start my bedroom and in particular my clothes as I have lots

As for vases - I have a couple which are out as they are pretty.

Hope you having a good day x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • I has an epic fail this morning, cleared out old receipts, put the ones I needed into a folder back into the drawer.
Found some more 10mins later, went to put them with the keepers in the drawer, forgot about the folder and setup another one - system didn't work if I couldn't use it just 10mins later, even when there were only about 10 things in the drawer!

Can I offer a clothes tip?

Wear it NOW - if you are clearing out your clothes and come across an item of clothes you are not sure about, but think "I might wear it sometime", wear it NOW, if it's not something ridiculous like a ballgown. Put it on, while doing something mundane like declottering or picking kids up from school.
How do you feel in in? Good, dated, squished, stylish, ridiculous, in need of specific shoes that you don't own, weepy, too hot even in winter, frumpy, too cold even in summer, mutton-dressed, remembering the sleeves were always too tight, embarrassed, younger, great ?... tune into that to make your decision.

Please don't consider it a fail, it's only a hiccup! New systems take time to get used to. Keep using the original folder and you'll soon be putting things straight to their allocated place.

Excellent advise on the clothes problem, as long as you don't wear your Miss Whiplash outfit to pick the kids up! :rotfl:

Many thanks for the encouraging and supportive comments x

Sort through the bits n pieces in the dining room. Some to my memory box and some in the bin....some Im not sure what to do with. Perhaps I should allow myself one drawer of bits n' pieces? What does everyone else think?

Decluttered one drawer in bedside cabinet. Again lots to the bin and a few bits in my memory box. Got my little travel working again so really pleased as I like to take it with me.

Yes I think everybody needs one junk draw but I have 2 draws, underneath the coffee table, various tins and a set of mini draws :rotfl:
Time for another area to be tackled in my clear out
Well done for getting through so much though Molly

    Hi All,
I have sorted out four bags of paper work and my large ridiculous collection of pens/ pencils/ stationary. Made a new area for envellopes and stationary. I had at least 30 green pens! Also sorted out all my shopping bags.

Got some bargains from Boots in their 75% off sale. I have some presents for family for next xmas and birthdays!

I am determined to keep a limit on what comes into the house. This has always been a problem of mine. I am having a major economy drive and am trying not to spend! I am going to keep a spending diary to keep track of what I do spend!
